SALAMANCA, SPAIN (PRWEB) October 20, 2005 -- Once again, don Quijote, Spain’s leading provider of in-country Spanish courses in Spain and Mexico, is offering 20 scholarships to educational institutions presenting innovative plans to promote the learning of the Spanish language. From today until February 28th, 2006, universities, colleges, community colleges and high schools worldwide are invited to present their plans in Fundación don Quijote’s third annual scholarship programme.

This year’s international competition follows the great success of the inaugural Scholarship Competition in 2003 and last year’s programme, launched in late 2004. Each winning institution will select a student to receive the scholarship, which will consist of a 2-week language course at one of don Quijote’s schools in Spain or Mexico, including accommodation and cultural activities.

The programme aims to:

  • Reward educational institutions going the extra mile to encourage their students to learn foreign languages and Spanish in particular.
  • Create a forum through which institutions share great language programme ideas.
  • Provide an opportunity for 20 motivated and deserving students to experience the magic of study abroad.

When asked about her experience, Australian Lisa Blackmore, who won a full scholarship with don Quijote last year, commented: “I was delighted at the chance to travel to Spain and attend don Quijote for 2 weeks. I believe the programme helped me to improve my Spanish in a friendly and supportive environment. I really enjoyed meeting people from around the world. Being able to study in Spain also helped me gain an understanding of the Spanish culture. It was certainly an experience I will never forget and intend to repeat in the future.”

Programme details and supporting information, including current statistics on the heightening demand for Spanish language proficiency, may be found on the don Quijote Web site at www.donquijote.org/20scholarships. Winners will be announced on the site on March 14th.
