International Medical Relief Organization Helps Earthquake Victims in Pakistan and India

(PRWEB) October 19, 2005 -- The October 8 earthquake in Pakistan and India caused over 30,000 deaths and displaced hundreds of families and young children. While providing medical disaster relief is beyond its scope, the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) (www.fimrc.org) is organizing a drive for basic supplies to help these disaster victims.

Below is a list of items that FIMRC is collecting for the earthquake victims:
- Health and hygiene products
- Self-contained water sanitizers
- Alcohol wipes
- Soaps (esp., anti-bacterial liquid soaps)
- Vitamins (children's multivitamins, vitamin C)
- Crutches
- School supplies
- Sweaters
- Hats, mittens, gloves
- Socks, tights (wool)

Persons wishing to donate any of these supplies should send donations to the following address no later than November 1:
The Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children
P.O. Box 33633
Washington D.C. 20033-3633
Please mark on donation box: ATTN: EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

These donations will be shipped to the non-profit foundation, PIEDAR, in Islamabad, Pakistan on November 1, which will distribute supplies that FIMRC collects for children in these areas. PIEDAR’s main goal is to aid the environment and improve rural conditions in poverty-stricken regions of Pakistan. Although disaster relief is outside of its mission, PIEDAR has numerous volunteers and many local connections at its disposal, and it is located only 40 minutes from the affected regions.

Please note that FIMRC is not collecting donations of cash and medical relief supplies. These donations should be sent to the International Red Cross.

About FIMRC:
FIMRC is a 501(c)3 global non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children by providing both direct and indirect medical support. Its foremost goal is to ensure that the basic medical needs of children in underserved communities are met. This is accomplished by establishing pediatric medical clinics in areas of need around the world.
