Education Technology Solutions from The Millennium Group - Just Got Bigger and Better - Former Miami-Dade School-Reform Chief Joins the Millennium Group

Joining forces with Dr. Irving Hamer, Jr. former Deputy Superintendent for Miami-Dade County Public Schools and former New York City Board of Education member, the Millennium Group (www.the-m-group.com),unites school turnaround experts with technology integration specialists to provide school districts with proven cost effective solutions that transform classrooms into hubs of rigorous learning where children can and do succeed.

(PRWEB) October 20, 2005 -- Dr. Irving Hamer, Jr., former Deputy Superintendent for Miami-Dade County Public Schools and former New York City Board of Education member joins The Millennium Group (TMG) to launch a proven Education turn around service.

For the past three years TMG has been a premier provider of education technology solutions for hundreds of Florida schools. TMG now will combine its proven record of success with the talent of a renowned school transformation expert to become the Education Turnaround Authority.

Dr. Hamer is one of the nation’s foremost leaders and activists for education. His distinguished career in academia and the public, nonprofit and private sectors is marked by innovative policies and programs. Results of his work emerging from Miami-DadeCounty Public Schools challenge conventional wisdom about school improvement in urban centers. Perhaps most compelling is the body of data proving sustainable quantum leaps in school reform are possible in a short period of time.

“Dr. Hamer is an experienced educator, leader and a skilled strategist,” says Darrell T. Forte, President and CEO of The Millennium Group. “He has a successful record of leadership, innovation and service in the public, private and academic sectors. TMG is extremely honored about his joining our team.”

As Deputy Superintendent of School Improvement, Hamer developed and managed implementation of the School Improvement Zone for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Florida. The 39 low-performing schools in the Zone serve 44,000 students. After one year of re-deployed resources and intensive intervention, an unprecedented level of more than 8,500 students improved at least one performance level on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.

During his 30-plus years as an educator, Hamer has served as Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Department of Education, member of the New York City Board of Education, school administrator, teacher, and professor. His entire career has been dedicated to improving education for the most vulnerable and fragile students in the nation’s school systems.

Prior to work at Miami-Dade, Hamer served as Professor of Practice in Education at Teachers College; Columbia University, co-chairman of TestU.com, a start-up educational service; and Executive Vice President of Simon & Schuster‘s Secondary Education Group, where he managed strategic planning, technology integration and new business development for a group of companies.

A native of Harlem, NY, Hamer did his undergraduate work in Sociology at Ottawa University. He earned a masters in education and an EdD in Learning Environments and Social Policy from Harvard University.

In addition to his work with TMG, Dr. Hamer serves as a Visiting Clinical Professor of Education with the Center for Urban Education and Innovation at Florida International University.
