Prediction on This Year's Hot Holiday Gift for Women – Light Weight and Affordable Fitness Equipment

Retailers are moving into position for this year's holiday season, hoping their market will take the lead – a good bet for women's gifts may be light weight fitness equipment.

Clifton, NJ (PRWEB) October 19, 2005 -- The holidays, already? You might as well get a jump on it now rather than scratch your head in late December. Retailers have been doing their analysis of what will be the hot sellers this year, especially for women who tend to be not only the biggest purchasers, but are the biggest receivers of holiday gifts. Yet, shopping for women can be difficult. One online retailer specializing in women's fitness equipment believes more people will look into purchasing a gift of health for the women in their lives. Particularly the seasoned baby boomer woman who is more exercise-conscious than her counterpart of previous generations, is looking for ways to incorporate effective but feasible exercise routines – ways that would enable her to fit in workouts while at the office or on business trips as well as at home.

Statistical trends show women are bigger consumers of fitness equipment than men. Recent research studies showing the youth-enhancing and disease-halting effects of weight training in particular, have prompted approximately 75% more women over the last decade to start lifting weights.

But fitness equipment? Does that mean hand the lady a two-ton box of high cost treadmills and multi-exercise home gyms with complex assembly required? "Absolutely not," says Janet Ford, a Certified Personal Trainer and co-owner of TheFitWoman.com, a Web site that features a great deal of light-weight and portable fitness equipment. "This equipment is remarkably effective and recommended by personal trainers to develop lean muscle mass, strength and a youthful appearance," says Ford, whose Web site relies on consultation from certified fitness professionals for product selections. Some of the more highly affordable and light weight products provided include:

Exercise Balls - probably one of the most versatile and economical pieces of exercise equipment you could have in your home gym. A burst-resistant exercise ball acts as a platform for many weight training exercises that you can do on a bench, while also training balance and coordination.

Resistance Bands, Hand Grips and Wrist Weights -Bands will help you firm up your chest, arms, abs, and legs and can sometimes impose as much tension on the muscles as free weights. If you have joint pain and stiffness, they prove to be an excellent way to train. Grips help women develop forearms and hand strength. Likewise wrist weights develop forearm strength, and both do so without causing a woman to look like Hercules. Unlike hand grips, you can wear wrist weights while engaged in other activities such as walking or lifting a dumbbell.

Jump Ropes – jump roping, known for its intense cardio-vascular effects, is also an excellent way to develop power, balance and coordination for both daily activities as well as athletic endeavors.

Add a set of space-saving adjustable dumbbells and medicine balls, and you have a full home gym, which according to many fitness professionals will provide a better weight training workout than most machines, and do so without consuming your living space or your budget. The simpler the fitness equipment, the better for health, and the easier to wrap up in holiday cheer for a friend, family member or loved one.
