Medical Technology Facilitates Manufacture of Space Application Carbon-Carbon Composite Flight Control Program

Healthcare Associates of Irving, a large group of Family Medicine physicians, has been commissioned by C-CAT, a local engineering and manufacturing company specializing in carbon – carbon composites to help in the assessment of flight worthiness of parts used in the construction of NASA’s unmanned, reusable space plane program. The program is being developed by the Boeing Aircraft Company.

Irving, TX (PRWEB) October 20, 2005 –- Healthcare Associates of Irving, a large group of Family Medicine physicians, has been commissioned by C-CAT, a local engineering and manufacturing company specializing in carbon – carbon composites to help in the assessment of flight worthiness of parts used in the construction of NASA’s unmanned, reusable space plane program. The program is being developed by the Boeing Aircraft Company.

Traditionally, the aerospace industry has utilized commercial scanners to detect imperfections in the manufacturing and assembling of shuttle type components. However, accessing these scanners has proven to be costly and time consuming, taking up to six months before final data analysis becomes available. High resolution medical grade CT equipment promises to drastically reduce the expense and time incurred in the inspection process while enhancing the quality and reliability of data analysis.

We are pleased to have a hand in the development of NASA’s orbital research vehicle. The medical technology of our CT scanner which has been used for years to save lives has now found synergy with the aerospace industry in ensuring that we get our astronauts and space vehicles safely into space and back.
C-CAT Quality Representative, Raj Narrayanan, states, “The willingness of Healthcare Associates of Irving to help us explore medical CT application has been a great opportunity to improve the response time in this space/aerospace program. We now have the opportunity to inspect the integrity and analyze the quality of newly developed components within days of scanning.”

Spokesman for Healthcare Associates of Irving, Dr. Mark Anderson, says, “We are pleased to have a hand in the development of NASA’s orbital research vehicle. The medical technology of our CT scanner which has been used for years to save lives has now found synergy with the aerospace industry in ensuring that we get our astronauts and space vehicles safely into space and back.”
