Via a tongue-in-cheek move that it set to reignite the Pocket PC v Palm debates, Pocket PC software website pocketpcheaven.com has launched 'Palm Invaders,' an online game based on the old space invaders arcade game. Only this time instead of blasting aliens from space, players must defend the world against 'invading Palms' by blasting them with their Pocket PC.

The graphics are crap, there is no sound and the quality of the game play is debatable but the message is clear - the Pocket PC is a better pda device than the Palm.

Or that is the message that Pocket PC software directory website http://www.pocketpcheaven.com would like us to believe. The site has launched a free flash based online game called, 'Palm Invaders.'

The game follows the 1970's classic 'Space Invaders' idea of blasting aliens from space. However, this time round instead of blasting aliens from space, players must defend the world against invading Palms by blasting them with their, er, Pocket PC.

Ireland based pocketpcheaven.com site owner Ruairi Glenn says that it is a tongue in cheek method of making a point and more importantly driving people to his website.

"Sure, the game won't have the makers of Tomb Raider quaking in their boots but its great fun and it gets the message across that the Pocket PC is a better pda device than the Palm.

My site function is to offer free listing space for developers of Pocket PC applications and programs and the game is serving the purpose of having Pocket PC owners read about these apps and ultimately download them. In the past I have ran surveys on the site asking surfers to vote on the best way to 'kill' a Palm. If I remember I think the winner was to hammer it to pieces. That is, hammer it with another Palm therefore 'killing' 2 in one go"

Hopefully the Palm Invaders game won't drive its players into such a frenzied mood that has them hammering their computer screen.

"If anything it's a good way to ease some stress and pass 10 minutes while the boss is on another tea break. And of course read about the latest Pocket PC software too." says Glenn.
