Established enterprise software developer Convea is about to move behind the scenes and make some large waves in the home broadband market. Its new venture, Convea Internet, will begin deploying its ultra high-speed 100Mbps home broadband network across the UK second quarter 2006. Convea Internet plans to deploy its own backhauling infrastructure and do away with the current bandwidth usage tariffs.

"We're excited, the 21st century is promising to give us geeks what we always dreamt of," said Alan Carter, Convea's CEO. "The internet is rapidly turning into the communications infrastructure - in the coming months we'll see movies on demand, usable voice and video over IP, internet radio and TV as well as broadband services that we can only imagine right now. We want to blow the old trickle-down techniques out of the water and give people want they really want- instantly. Everyone knows that the current staggered broadband speeds are a marketing ploy- there's no reason we can't squeeze 100Mbps down a wire and Convea Internet plans to do exactly that. Songs in seconds, movies in minutes, VOIP calls with CD quality sound, no drop-outs and zero latency. It all comes down to speed, and at the end of the day it's about squeezing photons down fibre - bandwidth is chargeable myth - once you have the infrastructure this charging for bits seems ridiculous. Does your office LAN have a per megabyte tariff for IP traffic? Of course not, you install the network and the traffic is free and the same should hold for the internet. We plan to really shake things up in that regard."

Convea Internet recognises that the UK really does exist outside of London and will begin deploying its network in the areas where customer demand is highest. It plans on making full use of the LLU directive where appropriate to provide quad-pumped ADSL2+ whilst also seeking permission to install its local fibre network directly to customers across the UK.

Convea Internet is in the process of forging further partnerships with the leading technology and content providers and will pass on their innovations to their customers. It welcomes enquiries from content providers keen to exploit the opportunities that an ultra high-speed network would provide.

Broadband pricing is to be confirmed.
