Chapel Hill, NC (PRWEB) October 25, 2005 -- Break out the party hats – All Kinds of Minds is turning ten! The nonprofit Institute, formed in September 1995, is dedicated to bringing together the best minds from the academic, clinical and business worlds to help kids who are struggling in school.
Co-founded and co-chaired by renowned pediatrician Dr. Mel Levine and financier Charles Schwab, All Kinds of Minds has grown from a handful of devoted individuals and staff to 130 full-time employees who provide hope, optimism and the opportunity for every child to succeed in learning and in life.
In ten years, All Kinds of Minds has achieved the following:
| | - Developed and continually improved the groundbreaking Schools Attuned professional development program, with more than 28,000 trained educators across the U.S. and Canada who reach more than 1.5 million students.
| | - Introduced the innovative Student Success Program in 2000 which provides comprehensive assessments of children. To date All Kinds of Minds has evaluated more than 2,900 students.
| | - Opened the New York Center for All Kinds of Minds in Manhattan in 2004 with outreach to private and public schools throughout the metropolitan area and millions of students who struggle in school.
| | - Educated more than 1,200 clinicians about Dr. Levine’s groundbreaking neurodevelopmental approach to understanding differences in learning.
| | - Expanded public awareness about differences in learning through the PBS documentary Misunderstood Minds and broad media outreach.
| | - Raised $64.2 million since 1995 through private donations to help fund educational research and opportunities to reach more children.
Reflecting on the past ten years, Dr. Levine said, “We’ve grown to a scale that I never imagined, enabling us to make an incredible impact on so many children, teachers, parents and clinicians in a remarkably short time. While we started out trying to help kids who were doing poorly in school, we quickly learned that our approach is relevant to every single child.”
Charles Schwab said, “I agreed to take a leadership role with the organization because I believed that if Dr. Levine’s work and research could be further developed, validated and broadly applied, it could have a substantial impact on educational practice and policy nationally.”
Mark Grayson, Chief Executive Officer of All Kinds of Minds, observed, “Because of the tremendous participation and support of educators, advocates, families, clinicians and donors who share our belief that together we can create an educational environment where every child can learn in his or her own way, we have started a revolution, and we are so proud to be a part of it.”
All Kinds of Minds helps students who struggle with learning measurably improve their success in school and life by providing programs that integrate educational, scientific and clinical expertise. The non-profit Institute provides the Schools Attuned? Professional Development Program for educators, the Student Success Program™ for individual student assessments, the Understanding All Kinds of Minds program for parents and caregivers, Educational Care seminars for educational leaders and clinician conferences focusing on neurodevelopmental variation for physicians, psychologists and learning specialists.
