'The Wages of Sin' Novel Already a Hit
The Wages of Sin is the story of a distraught, professional mother whose turburlent relationship with her unfaithful husband causes her to abandon her children, and an arrogant pastor's "sins" catching up with him.
(PRWEB) October 23, 2005 -- Dr. Audrey Forrest Carter, Associate Professor of English at Winston-Salem State University, published her debut novel, The Wages of Sin, and it is apparent that this veteran literature teacher is writing her own path to fame in her steamy, fast-paced novel, that is filled with intrigue, deception, lavish living, and adultery.
The novel's protagonist, Dr. Laura Bradley-Hutchins, a forty-something former co-owner of the family business, Hutchins Communications Firm, relays the story of her turbulent life in first person. On the surface, she appears to have deserted her children, "but I say I only did what I thought was best for them at the time."
Further conflict comes from Laura's millionaire husband, Alex Hutchins, who decides to have her committed to a mental institution because he has "eyes" for his young, brunette employee, who happens to be a Wharton Business School graduate.
The plot thickens when readers are introduced to Pastor Robert and Regina Conrad Jr., the handsome and rich couple at the helm of the thriving 5,500 membership, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Compton, North Carolina. They appear to have it all: respect in the community, six well-mannered children, and the appearance of an unblemished future together; but soon, everyone learns that this "man of the cloth" has skeletons in his closest.
Dr. Forrest Carter's background is firmly grounded in studying and teaching writing and literature. She began graduate studies at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1978 after graduating from Bennett College. After teaching on the college level for a number of years, she began doctoral studies at Miami University of Ohio, where she completed a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, as well as Nineteenth Century American Literature in 1990.
