Sportal have short listed FIFA Soccer Licensed Agent Gary Nelson as one of the candidates to be a top Internet TV presenter. The IT consultant working at Sir Terry Leahy’s Tesco PLC, is in it to win it. Sportal, the top internet sports website, was relaunched Aug. 21, 2005, as a 24-hour, live online TV channel. Voting for the sportal superstar is Sportal web site.

(PRWEB) October 23, 2005 –www.sportal.com [Sportal Superstar shortlist FIFA licensed agent Gary Nelson and IT consultant to Tesco as one of the candidates to be a top Sportal live TV presenter. Nelson says, “I’m delighted to be short listed for the Sportal Superstar competition and have the opportunity to be a presenter for the world class sporting Internet TV station.

Sportal, the top Internet sports website, was relaunched Aug. 21, 2005, as a 24-hour, live online TV channel. UKBetting last year bought “In the Box Media”, a fledgling broadband content provider, to develop on-demand sports video content for Sportal.

I’ve worked hard to achieve my goals and dreams and I’ve always tried to help youngsters from disadvantage backgrounds to achieve theirs. Consulting at Tesco is definite a great experience that has helped me to develop my business and technical skills. I want everyone to log onto www.sportal.com and vote for me because you know,
Nelson is the agent for UEFA Soccer star Curtis Allen from AFC Bournemouth FC (Coca Cola League One), who the press call the “Irish Rooney.“ Allen scored 9 international goals for Northern Ireland U17 /U19 in the season 2004/2005 (37 total) and was scouted by England U18 selectors as a 16 year old. During 2005/2006 Allen has scored 6 goals in 8 games to date and is a target for English Premiership clubs.

Nelson says, “It would be an exiting prospect working on Sportal live and I’m sure that a few of the candidates will be picked up by other TV stations looking for quality talent. Last year I developed, produced and presented a show called “Making IT” on Citybeat 96.7 FM (Belfast). The programme was the first radio reality show of its kind about a young footballer trying to make it in the game. I believe that experience helped me during my live audition to over 1 million viewers. Sportal Internet TV is excellent; the recorded and live coverage of sport is fantastic. Sportal live is growing, with the number of viewers already in excess of over 8 million. The content and quality is excellent and the station is adding new programmes all the time. I’ve got a few programme ideas that I will be sharing with the station in due course.”

The show Making IT (2004 Aug), became the second highest rated show on Citybeat 96.7 FM so Sportal would do well to offer Nelson a spot on the channel in some creative capacity. Nelson, whose qualifications include an MSc Operations Management, Chartered Diploma in Marketing, Postgraduate Diploma Qualification in Management, is also a Member of the British Computer Society. Nelson is well qualified and has plenty of experience of dealing with Directors, Executives of Blue Chip companies and Football Chairmen/ Managers/Players.

Nelson, who is also an independent Teradata database expert, is consulting for Tesco PLC, the third largest supermarket company in the world. Nelson comments, “I’ve worked hard to achieve my goals and dreams and I’ve always tried to help youngsters from disadvantage backgrounds to achieve theirs. Consulting at Tesco is definite a great experience that has helped me to develop my business and technical skills. I want everyone to log onto www.sportal.com and vote for me because you know, “Every Little Helps.”

Tesco’s Non Food IT consultant, Nelson comments, “I’ve seen first hand the phenomenal growth of the Tesco non food division that commands over 5% of market share. The new members of staff like Richard Copperwaite, Director UK IT commercial/office and Alex Preston, Non Food Management Information Systems (MIS) Manager have, in the last 18 months, certainly had an impact on Tesco’s ability to delivery increase sales through better MIS. Merchandisers are able to plan and forecast better thus delivering the right products on time, every time in line with the - Every Little Helps, marketing strapline."

Tesco is a quality employer and it is Sir Terry Leahy, Chief Executive’s drive, enthusiasm and strategy that is driving Tesco’s global supermarket dominance. Nelson stated “You can only develop a business like Tesco to become the number one retailer in the UK by investing in people and allowing them to focus on the strategy from the top. Sir Terry is leading that vision and under his leadership his employees are empowered to delivery the board’s plan. Can you tell me what other top chief executive spends time working on the shop floor several days a year to understand the problems first hand, that face customers and staff – It’s just fantastic and a testimony to Tesco’s success!”

Sir Alan Sugar Chief Executive of Amstrad PLC, bumped into the young Nelson in 1986. Nelson says, “I remember when I was studying IT in Chelmsford in 1986, I met Sir Alan Sugar on a train. Sir Alan, who was not knighted at the time, spoke to me about the dedication and commitment required to get to the top of business. I’ll never forget the informative words and encouragement from Sir Alan during my train journey from Brentwood in Essex to London. One day I hope I’ll meet him again and buy him a beer and say, thanks for helping me get to where I am today. He’s a top bloke.”

Nelson says “My ambitions are supported of my wife and daughters, Zoe and Demi . I’ve known many famous people over the years and that has also helped me to believe in myself. Linford Christie, Olympic Gold 100 meters medallist is a friend of mine and I’m proud of the fact that I beat him in ….. a game of draughts, age 12! Growing up in Shepherds Bush- London, the home of the BBC and attending the former Sir Christopher Wren School ( one of the poorest performing and toughest schools in England in 1970’s) attended by Les Ferdinand (Footballer Watford FC / Ex England) striker and Dennis Wise, (Ex Milwall FC / England Footballer), meant that you had to be street wise.

If Nelson does land a presenting job with Sportal, the station will be getting a sports fan who can name as friends and acquaintances:

Divina Macall (Big Brother – Channel 4)
Mike Craig bass guitarist of Culture Club
Darren Brarwaite Ex GB 60 Meters– Sliver medallist World Indoor Champs 1995 Spain.
Alan MacDonald, QPR, Northern Ireland International
Steve Coppell, Ex England and Reading Manager (Coca Cola One Football League)
Sky Andrews – FIFA Agent to Sol Campbell (England / Arsenal FC)

However, if media stardom is not forthcoming for Nelson, his Blue chip clients will be more than delighted to have him continue to design and develop IT systems, Head up IT departments or Programme manage projects for their companies.

Nelson’s Blue Chip clients include:

Tesco PLC
Sainsbury’s PLC
Avaya
Barclays Bank PLC
Woolwich PLC
