Ulster Business Provides Winter Car Care and On-Road Safety Tips for Women

Auto Care Service Offers Basic Car Care Tips to Make Winter Driving Safer.

(PRWEB) October 25, 2005 -- As winter approaches and driving conditions change for the worse, Kingston auto care owner and grandfather of three offers women several tips for better car care and on road safety.

Don Swartz, Sr. owner and operator of Absolute Autobody in Kingston recommends women follow these basic car care tips to help reduce the chances of car trouble during poor winter driving conditions. 1) Check Tire Pressure and Tread. Your tires specific requirements are listed on the tire itself or in your car’s owners manual. Tire tread should be checked for excess wear. Without tread, tires cannot grip the road and accidents are more likely; 2) Repair or replace old windshield wipers. Wipers clean the windows and ensure visibility which can help prevent accidents. 3) Change the Oil. Clean oil helps your car run better and more efficiently; 4) Check the Breaks. Breaks get excess use during poor weather conditions and must be in good condition to avoid problems; 5) Check the Battery. Make sure the battery terminals are clean to prevent loss of charge. Loss of charge results in engine failure in cold weather; 6) Check Anti Freeze levels. Anti freeze protects your car’s internal system from freezing.

Mr. Swartz also recommends putting together a basic emergency care kit in the event of on road problems. Swartz says the kit should include the following items. 1) Flashlight; 2) Jumper Cables; 3) Cell Phone Charger; 4) Blanket, Gloves, a Hat; 5) Fix a Flat; 6) A list of emergency Phone Numbers; 7) Disposable Camera to take pictures in case an accident occurs. 8) Tire Gauge. 9) Flares; 10) De-Izer and Ice Scraper.

Swartz also recommends always warming the car for at least 10-15 minutes until the car’s windows are defrosted. He emphasizes that “most people forget to clean ice and snow off headlights and taillights and yet this is critical for other drivers to see you. Swartz goes on to say that “a little planning goes a long way in keeping everyone safe”.

During the month of November, Absolute Autobody is giving away 10 Emergency Car Care Kits containing the items listed above. Absolute Autobody also provides concerned drivers with a free “10 minute car care check” to evaluate tires, wipers, oil, and battery charge.
