HI-POD has introduced the X2 Series. This newest product line from HI-POD, expands on the highly celebrated advances introduced by the HI-POD X1-P model.

The X2 series goes where no HI-POD has gone before -- Straight up. No longer is the HI-POD limited by the 15 foot constraint of the X1-P. Now the X2 series can extend up to 25 feet. This nose-bleed altitude HI-POD helps capture the all important aerial imagery necessary to sports videography.

To study game and practice footage coaches needed a high altitude shot from the endzone. Although the X1-P did achieve 15 feet, the request was for an even greater altitude endzone camera.. Based on the countrywide demand for the new units, HI-POD has been successful in giving coaches exactly what they requested.

HI-POD answered the call by re-engineering the X1-P from the ground up. The most revolutionary of changes has to be the spring retraction handle system. The original X1-P was cutting edge with its ability to change the altitude of the camera and have control of it , but it was slow because of the manual spooling system. (As one raised or lowered the X1-P, the user had to manually spool up the rope from the pulley system to make the pulley operate correctly at the new height. )

The new spring retraction handle system eliminates all of that. As the user elevates the poles the ropes will exit the handle easily, but unlike the previous X1-P the X2 series comes down just as fast as it goes up. The ropes automatically are sucked into the handle system as the pole is contracted, making this the fastest telescoping mast on the market.

The spring retraction handle comes in two versions., friction lock and positive lock. The friction lock is the faster of the two systems, but is limited to the smaller and lighter cameras. The positive lock takes a little more work but can hold the larger cameras without slipping. Both versions are huge speed advances over the original HI-POD X1-P.

The next major advance is the position lock feature. This feature could easily be overlooked, but an experienced HI-POD user can tell you how useful this is. The position lock function is a spool lock on the handle mechanism. Its purpose is to hold the handle in a hold position. This is a great feature and time saver for the HI-POD operator. For instance, if the subject that the operator is shooting, stays in the same position for a long period of time, the position lock can lock the HI-POD in that position so the operator does not have to hold the handle. This liberates the operator to be “hands free”, and to do other things

HI-POD also added the Stand-Alone Base for greater shot stability, and safety for higher altitude shots. The four legged base insures for a rock solid shot, no matter how high the HI-POD is elevated.

The base was also designed not only to stabilize the shot but to be easy to transport. The base is easily separated into two sections. (The bottom base and the base shaft.) Both of these sections, when separated easily fit into the trunk of just about any car.

The X2 has another great feature. It is pre-wired for two cameras. This dual camera ready HI-POD, allows for the user to mount two small cameras on top of the HI-POD. Both of these cameras can be monitored from the HI-POD monitor by toggling the video-in button,, and both of these cameras can be controlled by switching between the two LANC controllers. . Originally conceived as a built-in back up video cable only, the extra LANC connection was included to create a great 2-in-1 package.

Finally the X2 series offers financially flexibility. The three models can be upgraded. No longer is an owner stuck with the size that was originally purchased. The 15 foot and 20 foot models can be upgraded to the 25 foot model very easily. This way the HI-POD can grow with one’s budget..

To add even more flexibility HI-POD has offered a lease plan for schools and athletic programs. The organization can lease the HI-POD for a season (3 months) for $1400. If they like the product, they pay the balance after the 3 months., If they choose not to keep the HI-POD, they simply return it. This rent / lease to own plan requires a deposit and 2-3 months lead time. This plan provides a way for schools and organizations to try the HI-POD X2 before they buy.
