The Exploration (Map) Company Addresses Global Events on U.S. and World Maps
In post-hurricane, tsunami, and earthquake days, maps must be relevant to global events
Orion, MI (PRWEB) October 26, 2005 -- Addressing recent global events, The Exploration Company has unveiled U.S. and World maps that boast indigenous nations, areas of severe water pollution, tectonic plates and other elements that help explain natural and manmade disasters. “Exploration” is a craft-style map company with offices in Arizona and Michigan. “Exploration maps are built by hand and tested in our warehouse,” says Katie Sturdy, Sales and Marketing Coordinator for The Exploration Company.
Nystrom, Rand McNally and Cram make up the bulk of map distribution in schools. This leaves little room for the creative, craft style map companies. The Exploration Company has its sights on breaking this trend. They have produced U.S. and world maps that cover more topics and meet many of the curriculum standards for Social Studies.
Daniel Rirdan, founder of the Wide Ranging Map Line, and Director of The Exploration Company remarked, “What we’ve produced reflects current trends in education while other maps simply haven’t caught up. Until now, in a very real sense, maps have merely been the story of governments. We’ve added people to the equation…from national regions to the impact of humans on the environment.” For the first time, we get a look at the magnitude of destruction that concentrated populations and industrialization has on our waterways. Significant radioactive contamination is marked by skull and crossbones --a chilling reminder that we reap what we sow. This can also be an opportunity to engage students in ways we can make changes to reverse these trends.
Exploration has developed history maps, readiness maps for elementary students, and the Advanced Map line, for grades 5-12. In addition, they produce laminated desk maps for individual student use.
