International Company Eliminates Public Speaking Fear in Indianapolis Business People

A recent Gallup Poll reported that 40% of the population has a fear of public speaking big enough to keep them from presenting in front of a group of business peers, but graduates of the Fearless Presentations training program, that is beginning to offer programs in Indianapolis, say that they are no longer a part of this 40%.

Indianapolis, IN, Oct 27, 2005 — A recent Gallup Poll reported that 40% of the population has a fear of public speaking big enough to keep them from presenting in front of a group of business peers, but graduates of the Fearless Presentations training program, that is beginning to offer programs in Indianapolis, say that they are no longer a part of this 40%.

The Fearless Presentations program is a two-day public speaking course offered by The Leader’s Institute, an international training company teaching similar programs in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe. Doug Staneart, the President and CEO of The Leader’s Institute says that, “Public speaking is just like any other skill. Learning to speak in front of a group is similar to learning to drive a car. Good drivers master the parking lot first, then a residential area, and then move to the expressway. But most people get nervous because they start presenting at a very advanced level – like starting to drive on the expressway.”

Staneart says that the Fearless Presentations course helps participants first conquer their fear, then moves quickly into advanced presentation design and delivery so that class members see results fast. The program is made up of progressive exercises that allow each participant to have a series of success in front of a group, so that by the end of the two-day program, the fear is virtually eliminated.

John Wright, the instructor for the Indianapolis classes, says, “We make the process fun, and we’ve honed the skills down into simple techniques that can create world-class speakers in just a couple of days.” Karen Mayer, an executive for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indianapolis, went through the class a few months ago and said, “This program really exceeded my expectations. It was fun and has allowed me to take some simple techniques and put them to practical use in the business world with big results.”

Staneart says the key to good instruction is a balance between information, practice, coaching, and refining. The Fearless Presentations class takes participants through all four stages repetitiously a total of ten times. Each time a participant completes a cycle and has a success, his/her confidence grows. “My job is to make sure that no one fails, and after over 2000 people attending our classes, we’ve never had a single person fail,” says Wright.

Al Sanders, a trainer and frequent speaker for CapitalOne in Dallas says, “This class makes the good – better.” Sanders went through the class with a group from CapitalOne and was surprised at the improvement he experienced. “People would watch me present thinking I was totally in control, but I was actually very nervous. Now the way I feel inside matches the way people see me on the outside.”

The Fearless Presentations class is scheduled to take place at the Wyndham Hotel on Pennsylvania Ave on November 15th and 16th from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Participants must register in advance because class size is limited to the first 10 people.
