New Organization Helps Orphans in Cambodian Interior
Colorado based Christian Ministry has begun to meet the need for communal homes for orphans living in inland Cambodia.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) October 29, 2005 -- Colorado based Christian Ministry has begun to meet the need for communal homes for orphans living in inland Cambodia.
When Ken Armstrong visited Cambodia in 2000 and traveled to some of the villages in that country’s interior, he saw many young orphans working as indentured servants in order to survive and have a roof over their heads. Without parents, many of the children were being preyed upon by adult predators. Armstrong was surprised to discover that although there were organizations to help orphans in and around major cities like Phnom Pen, there was almost no one helping orphans living in rural areas.
When he returned home, Armstrong decided to do something to help and began to look for land to purchase in the Cambodian interior. After securing 10 acres, he was able to build a small orphanage large enough to house and care for 10 orphans along with several caregivers.
What started as a sole endeavor utilizing only Armstrong’s personal resources has now begun to grow into an international entity that seeks other people and organizations around the U.S to help expand the ministry and provide homes for additional orphaned children.
Child Rescue, Inc. was born in 2003 out of the encouragement and vision of a handful of Armstrong’s supporters. With the help of volunteers, Child Rescue has begun to raise money to build additional orphanages near other villages with orphans in need.
In 2004, Child Rescue launched a website to attract supporters from all over the world who were willing to partner with them to ease the plight of Cambodian orphans. In September, 2005, Child Rescue received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the IRS.
As well as food and shelter, Child Rescue also provides an education and Bible teaching to give hope for a better life for when each child reaches adulthood. The cost to sponsor one child on a monthly basis is $35. Child Rescue also welcomes one time gifts of any amount to help build more orphanages. With a total volunteer force, Child Rescue is pleased to report that nearly 100% of all donations go to help the children.
