Citizens, Legislators and Experts to Convene at Quiet Pavement Meeting

Meeting in Bellevue, WA to showcase rubberized pavement as noise mitigation solution.

Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) October 28, 2005 -- Eastside Citizens For Responsible Development (ECRD) is hosting a community presentation about the use of Rubberized Asphalt (RA) - also known as "Quiet Pavement" - which has been proven to reduce road noise for communities close to freeways in other areas of the country. The presentation will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Bellevue City Hall.

“The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has finally agreed to test RA Quiet Pavement in 2006, but will not say when or where,” said Walter Scott, who organized the meeting. “Our concern is that this test could last as long as a decade. This would effectively deny Washington residents the outstanding benefits of this proven technology.”

This test would provide statistics on RA Quiet Pavement's proven noise mitigation capabilities and also on the environmentally sound use of excess/waste rubber tires - which uses 1,000 discarded tires per lane mile.

The use of RA Quiet Pavement is a legislative requirement in Arizona and California and has been in use in these states for 13 years, with stellar results. The Federal Highway Administration does not yet recognize RA Quiet Pavement as a noise mitigation technique and continues to use only noise walls, which are cost prohibitive, and in many cases, such as where bridges or steep slopes are involved, neither practical nor effective.

ECRD believes many local freeways and arterials would greatly benefit from the use of this RA product in both new and overlay projects.

Presenters at this Saturday’s meeting will include materials experts from the Arizona Department of Transpiration and/or California Department of Transportation. Also invited are all members of the community, local elected officials, and WSDOT.

Date: October 29, 2005
Where: Bellevue City Hall, 11511 Main Street
Time: 10:00 a.m.
