Consumers Across the United States Hit with Innocent-Looking Fraudulent Credit Card Charges; Many Will Never Notice
Consumers needs to be aware of these fraudulent charges so they can dispute them.
(PRWEB) November 1, 2005 -- Brian Morris, of Brian Morris Technology Services, a small technology consulting and service business, has set up a website to inform people around the country of the prevalent fraudulent charges appearing on credit and debit card statements. Charges generally have started hitting cards in late September and are continuing through early October.
One of the charges appears as, “Digital Age 888-529-98 Cyprus” for $24.99. There are also other fraudulent charges that are common.
Brian has been interviewed so far by eWeek Magazine, The Hutchinson News newspaper, and consumeraffairs.com.
Brian Morris said, “I was personally affected by this fraud, so I have set up a website: www.digitalagefraud.com; it will the main source of information about this criminal activity. If you are affected by this charge, I recommend that you call your bank immediately, ask for the Fraud Department, cancel your card and get a new card number. Many times they will try to convince you to dispute the charge and leave the card open, but you may be hit with fraudulent charges again and again if the criminals know your card is valid.”
“I believe that thousands of consumers will never notice these innocent-looking, small charges and in most cases the banks will not be informing the customer, even if they know about the fraud. The customer generally must call their bank to get the charge reversed.”
“From reading about all the other victims, it appears as though the card numbers were not acquired from any website or retail store, but rather some other method. By using a victim registry at my website, I’ve found that people in at least 42 states have been affected, many of whom have never used their card online.”
Links to news stories and forums of others discussing this topic are available on www.digitalagefraud.com. The site also includes advice to victims, investigation details, and information about the federal law that protects consumers.
Brian Morris has served as an independent technology consultant and technician for the past four years for customers throughout Western Pennsylvania.
