Company Offers Creative Outlet to Combat the Progressive Blues
Company formed out of the despair of the 2004 election produces hilarious anit-Bush calendar.
RENO, Nev. (PRWEB) November 1, 2005 -- What happens when two former banking executives get frustrated over the 2004 elections? They get funny!
Disappointed over the turn of events in last year’s election, Averel Wilson and Kay Lee joined Louise Rush and Owen Roberts—-three mothers and a brother—-and decided people like themselves needed a creative outlet to express their outrage. To that end, they created Blue Funk Productions to urge fellow Progressives to “Climb out of your blue funk and help us make a difference!” Their aim is to improve the mood of the country through products that are fun and inventive takes on the politics of our times.
Their first effort is “The Official Countdown Calendar for Despondent Democrats and Other Thinking People,” an oversized, colorful wall calendar. All twelve of the hilarious cartoons of the month are original artwork by five student illustrators from the California College of Arts and Crafts and two seasoned cartoonists. Calendar dates include GWB trivia, anniversaries of ridiculous events of the GWB history, Words of the Month (Bush’s “invention” of new words, and classic misuse of common words), and Countdown Milestones.
The reception for this new product has been excellent. At a recent book trade show, the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA) in Oakland, California, booksellers stopped to laugh and enjoy the “Countdown Calendar.” Many expressed interest in carrying the calendar, even though it didn’t have a distributor and was offered months later that most such products. A major wholesaler, Partner’s West, signed Blue Funk up right at the show.
“It’s the perfect gift for your Progressive friends and relatives this holiday season,” said Averel Wilson, CEO of Blue Funk.
As part of its activist goals, Blue Funk will donate 10% of net profits to charities that can help improve the lives of people who face inordinate challenges not addressed by the Bush Administration, including Summer Search, the Fistula Foundation and Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts.
