Blogs Go Viral
Bloggers benefit from small company's viral marketing campaign ushering in new era of cooperation between blogger community and software industry
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (PRWEB) November 1, 2005 -- With the ever increasing presence and influence of Internet bloggers, especially in the software industry, a small firm based in San Diego, CA unleashes a new viral marketing campaign designed to have bloggers promote their software in exchange for a free copy of it.
The company is offering a free license of their VistaDB SQL database software for the Microsoft .NET platform to any person that blogs about their latest 2.1 software release. The viral element of their marketing effort is that within the blog message that is to be posted is a blurb telling readers of the blog that they too can get a free copy of software if they post the original message on their blog site. This perpetuates the company's original announcement and grows it's exposure to their targeted blogger community with each blog posting.
"We created this blog marketing campaign out of necessity.", stated Anthony Carrabino, President and CEO of Vista Software. "It is challenging to get product exposure in our software industry since there are so many products and solutions vying for attention from this very busy group of influential people. We are creating a win-win situation for bloggers in our industry by giving them a free copy of VistaDB in exchange for talking about it on their blog. Bloggers are free to review and post more personalized commentary as they wish."
Initial response has been very positive, according to Carrabino. The company has signed up over 80 bloggers in just a few days since launching their campaign. It seems that Vista's marketing efforts have won support from at least one prominent blogger, Robert Scoble, author of the popular Scobleizer blog site (http://scobleizer.wordpress.com), who calls the campaign "smart".
Before giving out the free software, the company reviews each request and makes sure the blog site is focused on discussing topics relevant to the .NET developer and database communities. The company says that it hopes to have 200 participating bloggers within the next week.
This type of opt-in cooperation between industry and blogger community should be a welcomed relief from the current plague of unwanted spam being delivered to blog sites by way of commenting on blog posts.
This announcement falls on the heels of the company's latest VistaDB 2.1 release, which is designed to support the just released Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 product line and new Microsoft .NET 2.0 and .NET Compact Framework 2.0 platforms.
