From Behind Bars, 'Orphan Mage' Author Erik Jensen Pens Fiction, Reaches Out To Troubled Teens

Erik Jensen, author of the fantasy adventure novel "Orphan Mage," would love to tour in support of his book, but can't. That's because he's behind bars in a Colorado prison.

(PRWEB) November 3, 2005 -- While many authors bemoan the time and effort needed to conduct a book tour in support of their work, Erik Jensen would be happy to embark on one. He can't however. That's because Jensen is an inmate at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility in Crowley, Colorado, where he is serving a life sentence without parole for his role in a murder that took place when he was only 17 years old.

Jensen's first fantasy adventure novel, "Orphan Mage" (Chicago Spectrum Press, 608 pages, trade paper, $19.95, ISBN 1-58374-124-0)was published last month.

The now 24 year old Jensen wrote the book in prison. In it, young Danken Sariksen journeys through exotic locales populated by magical races in his quest to bring the Gods back to Midgarthe and overcome the Forces of Darkness and the evil Sorcerer bent on seeing Chaos reign supreme.

Jensen's novel is the first book in a trilogy, and calls to mind the writing of masters of the genre such as Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, and Raymond Feist. In "Orphan Mage," Jensen has created a fantastic and dangerous world filled with unforgettable characters.

For many prisoners, a life sentence without parole is actually a kind of death sentence. But Jensen has vowed to make positive use of his time behind bars, writing fiction and reaching out to troubled young people through his Next Day Foundation and its website, www.teensintrouble.org. With the help of his parents Curt and Pat Jensen, the author hopes to help young people avoid the kind of situation he found himself in as a teenager, when he tried to help a friend and found himself going to prison for the effort.
