Former England and Wimbledon star, John Fashanu wholeheartedly supports the program by saying: "The main reason why I am so excited about the launching of the site is that all pro-footballers have started from the grassroots. We are helping not only in promoting health benefits in this instance, but creating the stars of tomorrow."
The initiative takes a unique approach to increasing football participation in communities by creating a website that makes finding players easier and basically hassle–free.
The Findaplayer site is designed to put amateur players and teams together by offering, a new and simple way of keeping in touch, saving managers hours spent each week on team selection.
By offering on-line 2-way SMS text messaging via ‘bookapitchMessenger’ managers can communicate match details and match cancellations to their players, cutting out the need for numerous telephone calls.
Some people will also have the chance to develop their skills with their heroes via the Fash Soccer Legends Coaching Clinics that will take place in 10 cities around the country later in 2006. Those lucky enough to be selected for the coaching clinics will get the opportunity to take part in the Findaplayer 2006 Football tournament.
The finals of the Findaplayer tournament will take place in London at the end of April 2006. Very good players will get the opportunity to sign with top agents and recommendations to clubs.
The coaching clinics and tournaments are currently attracting corporate sponsors, especially companies and organizations with a commitment to grassroots football.
