Film Studio Avoids Horror Trend by Debuting Unique Films at American Film Market

Passion River (www.PassionRiver.com) debuts four unique films at the American Film Market (AFM), Nov. 2 – 9.

(PRWEB) November 3, 2005 -- Unafraid of going against the horror genre trend at this week's American Film Market (AFM) on Nov. 2 – 9, New York/New Jersey-based independent film studio Passion River is debuting four unique, non-mainstream films: "A Dog's Life," "7th Street," "Waiting Game" and " Bucharest Express."

"We are offering market attendees a selection of films that are a refreshing change from the genre-heavy films and horror titles that are typically abundant at the AFM," says Allen Chou, President of Sales for Passion River. "We stay away from the horror genre."

Passion River prides itself by representing films that often spotlight interesting characters and quirky animals, such as "A Dog's Life." This "dogamentary" features sassy Manhattan pooch Chelsea and her doggie cam, which records her daily interaction with New Yorkers. Owner and filmmaker Gayle Kirshcenbaum received national media exposure on the film with interviews on network morning shows (including NBC's Today Show), newspapers and magazines, as well as an HBO/Cinemax premiere. Kirshcenbaum, along with her Shih Tzu Chelsea, are attending the AFM Nov. 6 – 9, and will be available for interviews.

In addition to "A Dog's Life," Passion River is debuting "7th Street," a documentary on the wild and trendy East Village neighborhood of New York City; "Waiting Game," a thrilling extreme ski adventure entirely filmed in Hi-Definition; and the thriller "Bucharest Express," which tackles the tragedies of human trafficking in Eastern Europe.

"We're willing to take risks by representing unique and award-winning films that have a distinct vision," Chou says.

Chou states that since Passion River's marketing and overhead expenses are low, the company can stay profitable even with lower licensing fees, therefore enabling the savings to also be passed on to customers.

In addition, the studio acquires films that foreign buyers can use for unique programming in their own home markets. To gain an advantage in the competition for ratings and DVD shelf space, Passion River aims to set itself apart by providing buyers with titles that are alternatives to "genre" films.

Passion River will be attending the American Film Market from Nov. 2 – 9, with an office at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, Suite #205.
