(PRWEB) November 7, 2005 -- The Texas Commission on the Arts announced Friday that it will sponsor the Texas Mountain Art Seminar, Show & Sale held in Van Horn, Texas November 11-13, making the day-and-a-half seminar a free event for aspiring professional artists. The event, including an exhibit opening reception on Friday night, a small business seminar for artists and the Texas Mountain Art Show & Sale, was developed by AdventGX, Inc. to promote travel and tourism in the Texas Mountain region by encouraging and supporting the exhibit and sale of art that captures the unique culture, heritage and natural beauty of the Texas Mountain Region.

A program of the Van Horn Economic Development Initiative, Texas Mountain Art Seminar aligns well with Texas Commission on the Arts’ Texas Craft Initiative. According to the Commission web site, a large number of craft artists and artist-owned businesses across the state operate independently of one another with very little networking, communication and professional development. By bringing these artists together and forging new partnerships through the Craft Initiative, TCA will assist communities in building their own unique events and attractions. These events will attract new tourist activities and generate revenue for the community. The initial focus of the program will be directed to rural communities.

“Thanks to the Texas Commission on the Arts we are now able to offer the small business seminar for artists as a free event,” said AdventGX Director of Communication Joan Tatge. “With the Commission’s generous support, we will be better positioned to build a program that will benefit Van Horn and establish a model for other rural places throughout the state.”

Seminar sponsors to date include the Texas Commission on the Arts, Van Horn Economic Development Corporation, Van Horn Convention and Visitors Bureau, Big Bend Arts Council, Red Rock Ranch and the soon to open Sunflower Café of Van Horn. AdventGX, Inc of College Station, Texas, is producing the event.

The Small Business Seminar for Artists will feature sessions about the business of being an artist, providing practical guidance on topics from pricing work to online promotion. Sessions will be presented by successful, knowledgeable artists and business professionals. The Art Show and Sale will feature paintings, sculpture and pottery that portray the rich heritage and beauty of the Texas Mountain Region. To register for the seminar find out how to be part of the show and sale, visit or call Lindsey Hafner at 979.216-0548.
