Biometrics is the automated process of using unique physical or behavioral characteristics to determine a person's identity. Examples include fingerprint, iris recognition, hand geometry and face recognition. This program describes the growing use of biometrics by large and commercial enterprises to verify employee identity for such applications as building access, time and attendance, and network security.
Many other organizations use biometrics to identify customers in banking applications, hospitals, schools, etc. The presentations include considerations for choosing the appropriate technology for the intended application, how a fully integrated doorway-to-desktop system using biometrics might look and the role of biometric standards.
