Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 9, 2005
Atlanta-based playwright and #1 Box Office hit producer Tyler Perry has selected Vascent as his Web Agency of Record. Vascent will provide ongoing eCommerce strategy and support services to respond to Perry's meteoric rise in fame.
"Vascent is honored to receive the seal of approval from Tyler Perry's team," says Jason Martin, CEO and president of Vascent. "Our unique advantage of providing a strong blend of both technical and creative skills is pivotal in addressing Tyler Perry's wide range of needs."
Perry recently shook up Hollywood by having his movie, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”, skyrocket to the #1 movie in US ticket sales in early February. The film, co-produced by Lion's Gate and filmed in Atlanta, has since then brought in more than $52,000,000 in Box Office and DVD sales/rentals.
"Diary" centers around actress Kimberly Elise's character, Helen McCarter, who is not-so-subtly informed that her marriage is over when her husband kicks her out of their shared mansion while his mistress, with whom he's secretly fathered illegitimate children, stands by his side. As New York Times film critic Stephen Holden explains, "Perry's movie occupies its own special stylistic niche, if you can imagine such a thing as a romantic revenge farce."
Since the movie release, Perry has been busy with numerous media appearances, including interviews by MTV and three appearances on Oprah in the past few months alone.
Perry's success isn't news to his truly devoted fans, however. Perry's fan base dates back to 2001 when Perry first introduced his play, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman”, to audiences. Over the past four years, Perry has introduced Madea spinoffs with successful tours that have grossed over $75 million dollars in ticket sales. Perry gained appeal to a wider audience when he made DVD copies of the show available for purchase on this website.
At the center of all this pre-Hollywood success has been the website that keeps Perry connected to his adoring fans. Vascent has been providing interactive marketing services to Tyler Perry for several years now, including a complete eCommerce site redesign and ongoing support services.
"The main challenge we faced with the website was figuring out strategies of keeping Perry's fans in touch with him, not simply producing a website that sells merchandise," explains David Felfoldi, Creative Director of Vascent. "We didn't want to turn Mr. Perry into a celebrity commodity, because that is the exact opposite thing Perry is about."
Within the first quarter of its release and with before the movie’s publicity, traffic and web orders were already significantly increasing.
Pierre Johnson, vice president of sales and operations, states, “I’m especially pleased at how easy it is to navigate through the site. Coupled with the clean, fresh look of the site, it makes our visitors want to explore more.”
The stage is set and the future is looking bright for Tyler Perry. Currently, Perry is working with Lion's Gate on the February 24, 2006 release of Perry's next feature film, Madea’s Family Reunion.
