(PRWEB) November 10, 2005 -- Following a sold-out run at the recent New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), the York Theatre will be presenting an encore performance of “Dorian Gray: The Musical” in a new show driven by a fantastic five-piece band as part of its “Developmental Reading Series” with three free performances, Monday and Tuesday, November 14-15.
The authors/composers Barry Gordon and Andrew Steven Ross have taken their inspiration from the Oscar Wilde novel, “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” and spun it into an emotionally charged rock musical directed by Bill Castellino.
Victor Gluck of Back Stage hailed the NYMF performance as, “Magnificent. Powerful, witty and clever, this is an impressive piece of musical theater. With a first-rate cast with Broadway-sized voices, the presentation, directed by Bill Castellino, is as perfect as a staged-reading could be….”
According to Barry Gordon, “In the present day of aging rock stars still touring and presenting the same songs and posturings of their youth, ‘Dorian Gray’ is especially relevant in reflecting our own culture’s obsession with youth and celebrity, and the perils of lost innocence and idealism.”
Currently seen in HBO's “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in a recurring role as the Rabbi, Gordon won a Tony nomination at 13 in his Broadway debut as Nick in “A Thousand Clowns.” Previously, Gordon and Ross' “Dorian Gray: The Musical” won the 2003 National Music Theater Network’s Directors Choice Award.
Free tickets are available by calling 212-935-5824, ext. 24. Performances are scheduled for Monday, November 14 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Tuesday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. The York Theatre is located at 619 Lexington Avenue (at 54th Street), New York City.
