(PRWEB) November 11, 2005 -- A witness to the 9/11 attacks on New York City writes his first novel about Al-Qaeda's next plot on America's largest city, "King of Bombs." The book explores the terrifying prospect of nuclear terrorism occuring on American soil (http://www.kingofbombs.com).

Standing on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street on the morning of September 11, 2001, Sheldon Filger stared towards the pall of smoke arising from the ruins of the World Trade Center. Four years after 9/11, Mr. Filger's new novel, "King of Bombs," provides a riveting portrayal of what might be Al-Qaeda's next 9/11;a nuclear bomb destroying all of New York City.

"No one who was present that day and its aftermath, in New York, can forget those times of morbid terror, chaos and forebodding," Filger said, commenting on his recollections of 9/11. "Now, four years after that horrific event, with the failure to capture or incapacitate Osama bin Laden and his senior lieutenants, and warnings by experts that Al-Qaeda is seeking nuclear weapons, I wanted to use the platform of a novel to provoke serious discussion of what might happen in a future 9/11, if our government and society don't wake up to the dangers that did not evaporate the day after 9/11, but which are in fact growing."

"King of Bombs," available online at amazon.com, has received reviews lauding the book as "chilling, riveting" and "a real page-turner." It is a fast-paced book, which though fiction, presents a terrifyingly realistic portrayal of future Al-Qaeda attacks using weapons of mass destruction. One of the reasons "King of Bombs" comes across as a convincing scenario for a nuclear 9/11 attack on New York City is the research conducted by the author. "I looked at virtually every piece of open-source information accessible on the threat of nuclear terrorism and Al-Qaeda. Much of what I learned is incorporated into the novel," Filger commented on writing his book.(http://www.kingofbombs.com)

Among the controversial aspects of "King of Bombs" is the portrayal of the fictional U.S. president, who comes across as a thinly-veiled representation of George W.Bush. In a manner uncanningly predictive of the federal government's inability to cope with the Hurricane Katrina disaster, "King of Bombs" presents a presidential administration ridden with cronyism, and unable to cope decisively with growing evidence of a forthcoming Al-Qaeda plot involving a nuclear bomb, while distracted by the war in Iraq. In mixing reality from today's headlines with a scenario that many terrorism experts believe is possible, "King of Bombs" is more than a terrifying espionage and terrorism thriller. It also challenges the reader to think seriously about the real possibility that America is under imminent threat from nuclear terrorism at the hands of Islamic fanatics linked to Al-Qaeda.

"The 9/11 Commission that investigated governmental and intelligence failures that enabled Al-Qaeda to successfully attack America on 9/11, concluded that the major contributing cause was the failure of imagination by key decision-makers. They also concluded that nuclear terrorism by Al-Qaeda was the number one national security threat to America," Mr. Filger said. "I hope my book will serve as warning to the nation, before it is too late."
