Student Entrepreneur Launches Canadian $1 Million Page to Pay For University Degree

A Canadian entrepreneur aims to pay his way through university by selling 1 million pixels of internet ad space for $1 each. David Bakker, 22, is in his 4th year of studies at UBC to become a high school history teacher and hopes his 'Million Loonie page' will attract big-spending advertisers.

Westbank, British Columbia (PRWEB) November 11, 2005 -- A 22 year old Canadian student is hoping that he’ll be able to raise enough money to pay for his university education by selling as many $1 pixel ads as possible on his million pixel web page. He’s hoping he might even become a millionaire in the process.

David Bakker, from Kelowna, British Columbia, set up www.millionlooniepage.ca after seeing what another student in England had done with a similar site to raise over $500,000 USD in less than 2 months and thought to himself that “it was a brilliant idea. After a bit of research on the web I could see that no one in Canada had done it properly yet. So, why not do the same and even better than the original to see what happens. I could use the money as much as he can."

Bakker says that he has already made over $1,000 in the last few days and expects it to pick up dramatically as news spreads about the unique advertising opportunity that this site presents. He acknowledges that there is a lot of work involved in promoting it because of initial skepticism about its value but he also points out that it’s a bargain for any advertiser looking to get great exposure on the web.

Bakker, who is majoring in History in UBC to become a high school history teacher, says that people can use the pixel positions that they buy to display an ad or logo and have a link to their own site.

“I’m certain that businesses will love this idea and jump on to my page as they jockey for position on my limited space pixel ad board. One of the things that makes it so compelling for business is that the pixel positions they buy will be theirs for 5 years at least and that they will be associated with a unique high traffic site that is historic and fun. The pixels are also priced in Canadian dollars. This presents one of the best advertising values available anywhere.

Bakker says that he hopes to hit the $1 million target and continue with his studies. The funds would make a nice financial cushion for a new teacher/entrepreneur.
