Kidney Disorders: It's Not Just About Kidney Stones
Recently, film and TV star William Shatner had to be taken from the set of his
current TV show to a hospital because of a kidney stone attack. The incident
sparked a lot of interest in these tiny rock-like masses that can cause
tremendous pain. But kidney stones aren't the only disorder that afflicts the
kidneys. Two new websites offer websurfers information about kidney stones and
describe other kidney problems as well.
Pittsburgh, PA, (PRWEB) November 13, 2005 -- Kidney Stones attracted a large amount of interest among websurfers recently when TV Star William Shatner was rushed from the set of his "Boston Legal" TV show after suffering a kidney stone attack.
"There was a dramatic increase in visitors to two of my kidney-related sites," says George McKenzie, creator of http://www.kidneys.name and
http://www.kidneystones.name.
Shatner described his kidney stone pain as "unbelievable" when he appeared several days later on "Live With Regis and Kelly."
"Anyone who's ever endured kidney stone pain would agree," says McKenzie, who suffered his first kidney stone at age 12 and has had kidney surgery twice. "Mr. Shatner also said the pain brought him down "on his knees." I've been there. It's that bad."
Kidney stones tend to run in families, a fact McKenzie discusses in his kidney stones website. "My mother and nearly everyone on my mother's side of the family has suffered from kidney problems. My mother had a kidney removed when she was 43 and died 16 years later when the other kidney failed as she was battling
other health problems."
"I wanted to give people information about kidneys, kidney stones and overall kidney health from the point of view of someone who's kidney health-challenged. And I wanted to put the information in non-medical language that people could easily understand."
McKenzie's websites offer about two dozen separate articles related to kidneys and kidney health topics, and busts some popular myths about kidney stone prevention. "Forget the whole cranberry juice thing," he says. Recent research has found drinking cranberry juice is no better thaqn drinking water. But
whatever you do, stay away from grapefruit juice if you're a candidate for kidney stones."
