Sngles Say it’s OK to Attend Thanksgiving Dinner Solo

“Singles want to be with those closest to them during Thanksgiving,” says Andrea McGinty, founder of It’s Just Lunch, “65% say they are most thankful for their family this holiday season.” 71% of singles plan on celebrating Thanksgiving with their extended family.

According to the survey, not only are singles planning on being dateless on Thanksgiving they are also ready to brave questioning from nosy, but well meaning relatives about the state of their love life. When asked about their love life on Thanksgiving, 35% of singles said they will take a humorous approach and respond by saying, “I’m so glad you asked! Did you have someone in mind?” Another 29% said they would explain that they are just too busy to focus on their love life right now and 17% will avoid the question altogether and simply state that, “I plead the fifth!”

For those in the minority, the 10% that are thinking about bringing a significant other to Thanksgiving, how long into your relationship should you wait before extending the invitation? 71% of singles agree that it’s best to wait 3 to 6 months before asking your significant other to spend the holiday with your family. Only 15% said that one month of dating qualifies for an invite to Thanksgiving, while 10% said it’s best to wait one year.
