SportsLizard.com’s Adam McFarland has been awarded Honorable Mention in the Microsoft Start Something Amazing Awards for his sports collectibles website. The awards were given to those who use Windows technology in unique and creative ways to pursue their passion.
WEST HAVEN, Connecticut (PRWEB) November 13, 2005 -- Adam McFarland was awarded Honorable Mention in the Sports & Games category of the Microsoft Start Something Amazing Awards this past Thursday for his online sports collectibles marketplace, SportsLizard.com.
McFarland, a 23-year-old resident of West Haven, CT, started SportsLizard.com in July of 2004 as a senior in college. The sports collectibles marketplace enables users to search thousands of sports collectibles for sale across the web or post their items for sale on the site. The site also publishes industry related articles, offers a monthly newsletter, and gives users the ability to order custom made collectibles.
The national Microsoft Start Something Amazing Awards contest honored people who pursue their passion using Microsoft Windows in simple yet powerful ways. The awards were part of a global Start Something marketing campaign celebrating the possibilities that Windows offers.
McFarland’s interest in sports collectibles is rooted in his life-long love for sports. He started collecting figures and baseball cards as a child and decided to pursue his passion by starting an online business while in college. After nearly a year of preparation, he launched SportsLizard.com to unite the buyers and sellers of sports collectibles. McFarland ran the business throughout his senior year of college and continues to oversee the company while working full time as an engineer.
The business is run completely from two Windows-based computers. Using Microsoft Office programs, McFarland is able to efficiently and effectively track and analyze data, write articles, publish the newsletter and respond to consumer emails.
Recently, SportsLizard.com added the ability to search other sites (such as eBay and Amazon.com) while searching SportsLizard.com to help buyers find what they are looking for. They can also order custom sports figures, custom plaques, and custom mini-helmets. Those wishing to sell their items can list them on the site for $1 with the listing lasting until the item sells. Visitors to the site can also sign up for the monthly newsletter and RSS news feed to receive the latest sports collectibles news.
