Hamilton, Ontario (PRWEB) November 15, 2005 -- November 13, 2005 marks the one-year countdown to the next Hamilton municipal election. It also marks the official launch of Hamilton’s newest citizens’ group, the Community Action Network (CAN).
What is CAN? CAN is a grassroots group of citizens whose mission is to promote and support municipal candidates who understand the importance of responsible fiscal management, the effects of urban sprawl and environmental pollution, and the value of real public input. Candidates should understand Hamilton’s citizen-based Vision 2020 plan and its Growth-Related Integrated Development Strategy (GRIDS). Candidates must also have strong ethics and a commitment to integrity.
Hamilton Needs to Change: “People want two main things from their home town and their local government” suggests CAN spokesperson, and Dundas resident, Ben Bull, “They want good, responsible government, and overall, a superior quality of life. Hamilton needs to change its political focus to reflect these desires. Hamilton CAN do better.”
CAN’s Approach: CAN believes that Hamilton needs to change the focus of its present day municipal policies. CAN has conducted a series of informal survey’s and prepared a vision document, outlining a variety of municipal strategies we believe will help create a better quality of life for all Hamiltonians.
What will CAN do? CAN’s candidate outreach campaign starts tomorrow. CAN aims to formalize the creation of 15 Ward Committees, plus a Mayoral Committee. These Committees will work together to seek out qualified and interested municipal candidates, and work with them to plan and run their election campaigns.
CAN believes that Hamilton CAN attract high calibre civic leaders, and that with a new approach, Hamilton CAN, and will, succeed.
