Agave Galleria, owned and operated by Rudy and Cathy Martinez, has recently developed a relationship with renown, Southwest artist, Lawrence Vargas and Native American artists, Bill & Traci Rabbit to produce a wonderfully unique music box collection from the Southwest. The marriage of art and music is not a new concept but providing the beautiful art upon music boxes made of burl elm wood is. “When I saw the artwork I knew our customers would appreciate owning a piece of fine art from these wonderful artists. The Southwest and Native American culture is rich with color and tradition.” said Cathy Martinez, owner and creative director for Agave Galleria.
For the first in a series of the artwork for the musical jewelry boxes, Martinez selected Lawrence Vargas, “Our Lady of Guadeloupe” and coupled the art with Schubert’s wonderful, Ave Maria. She also selected Bill Rabbit’s, “Rainbow Dancer” and married it with a choice of Bob Dylan’s, “Blowing in the Wind”, John Lennon’s, “Imagine”, or Bette Midler’s, “Wind Beneath My Wings.”
Martinez continued to describe the pieces by saying, “The use of color and subjects are ideal for creating a show piece unique music box. Lawrence Vargas is known for his storytellers. “Our Lady of Guadeloupe” depicts the Blessed Mother in a very unique and beautiful way. “Rainbow Dancer” is exquisite and colorful. You can almost feel the excitement of life the Native American Dancers are illustrating. These are just the first in a line of beautiful art music boxes from Lawrence Vargas and Bill and Traci Rabbit.”
Martinez is making a name for herself. She recently created a custom music box for Arizona Highways Magazine, Fall Catalog. “We are really pleased at the reception of the Saguaro Cactus Music Box. The response has far exceeded our expectations. There are just a few left.” said Cathy Martinez. Her unique line of music boxes illustrate the beauty of Southwest desert floral, desert life and now, beautiful art from famous Southwest and Native American artists is fast becoming collector items all over the world.
Martinez concludes with this message, “Agave Galleria, encourage all our readers to preserve the beauty of heritage, to embrace your legacies and to inspire someone in your life to … “Experience the Rhythm of Tradition.”
