TravelPost.com Launches

New travel services site offers personalized hotel reviews and journaling tools; first to match travelers’ needs with relevant reviews and advice from people truly like them.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 15, 2005 -- Combining three of the most exciting segments of the Internet - user-generated content, personalization, and the travel industry - TravelPost.com, the premier source for personalized hotel ratings and travel advisory services to help travelers research, plan, and reserve travel, launched today at www.travelpost.com. With more than 170,000 hotel reviews, TravelPost.com offers superior travel planning by matching travelers with the hotels that best meets their needs by providing travel advice from people truly like them.

TravelPost.com delivers a set of comprehensive, consistent, and easy-to-use hotel reviews with a unique filtering feature that allows users to segment reviews according to the demographics of the reviewer, including age, gender, purpose of stay, and travel budget. The reviews are integrated with a map-enabled travel journaling community in which travelers are able write about their experiences, post photos from their trips, and keep track of where they’ve been on a world map.

“What TravelPost provides is confidence that the reviews a user is reading are relevant to them. For instance, if you are 50 and traveling on business, you are not interested in hotel reviews from a 25 year old budget traveler on vacation,” said Sam Shank, CEO of TravelPost.com. “This means users save valuable time, and ultimately are more informed and make better travel decisions. Travelers can also trust what they find on TravelPost.com because unlike other leading hotel reviews sites, our ownership structure is completely independent and therefore we are impartial to users and advertisers.”

In July 2005, TravelPost.com announced it had raised a seed round of funding totaling more than $1 million. Lead investors include seed stage venture capital fund Amicus Capital, and Arba Seed Investment Group. The funding is going toward infrastructure to handle traffic growth, expanding the team to continue to build the product and feature set, and marketing efforts.

“The travel industry is incredibly attractive, particularly in the area of user-generated travel content,” said Bob Zipp, managing partner of Amicus Capital. “This market opportunity, coupled with the strength of TravelPost.com’s high-margin business model, makes the company a very appealing investment.”

“The big opportunity on the web today is in providing the best and most viral tools and applying them to vertical topic areas,” said Dave Pell, managing partner of Arba Seed Investment Group. “TravelPost.com is perfectly positioned to take advantage of this trend by building an excellent suite of social tools to create community around what has always been one of the hottest vertical segments on the Web.”
