When Saying “No” to Drugs Fails to Reduce Peer Pressure, Parents Give Teens a Socially Acceptable Excuse

When kids “Just Say No” to drugs, pressure may not cease and often increases if they don’t know what to say next. Teens needing a socially acceptable excuse and additional parental support can now get both from a new campaign initiated by TestMyTeen.com.

St. Louis, Mo. (PRWEB) November 17, 2005 —- When kids “Just Say No” to drugs, pressure may not cease and often increases if they don’t know what to say next. Teens needing a socially acceptable excuse and additional parental support can now get both from a new campaign initiated by TestMyTeen.com.

Mason Duchatschek, the Executive Director of TestMyTeen.com, says parents using home-testing kits give kids the ability to say “My parents test me” as a means of stopping pushy peers in their tracks. Replacing the remote possibility of being caught and punished with the certainty of it is a much stronger deterrent, says Duchatschek.

Duchatschek acknowledges the “Just Say No” campaign as one of the most popular antidrug campaigns in history; however, he believes that additional deterrents and accountability can improve results.

To ensure accuracy, kits utilize the same technologies found in medical labs and clinics. Because they’re ordered via the Internet, shipped using nondescript packaging, and administered by parents in the privacy of their home, confidentiality is protected.

A Monitoring the Future study conducted by the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) has revealed that while 53 percent of high school seniors admitted to some drug use, only 18 percent of parents believed that their teen had tried drugs. Duchatschek encourages parents to trust their kids yet verify that their trust is warranted, since they are financially liable.

Additional resources for parents are available at www.TestMyTeen.com.
