Autovan LLC Releases COTvan™ – First Dual ADA Wheelchair and Stretcher Compliant Minivan

Autovan, LLC CEO, Jim Bishop, of Taylor, Michigan and Ferno Washington of Wilmington, Ohio have joined to offer the non-emergency transport industry an economical way to transfer patients who require cots.

Taylor, MI (PRWEB) November 21, 2005 -- Autovan, LLC CEO, Jim Bishop, of Taylor, Michigan and Ferno Washington of Wilmington, Ohio have joined to offer the non-emergency transport industry an economical way to transfer patients who require cots. The new COTvan™ will be offered through Autovan and certified Autovan dealers beginning November 15th. The COTvan™ features the option to carry a single Ferno POWERFlex™ cot and up to three other passengers or a wheelchair and five other passengers.

“In the past, the cost of transportation for those who need to be transferred in a stretcher or cot has been extremely high, as well as difficult to control,” says Brad Querry, Vice President of Autovan.

“Our goal is to offer an economical and versatile product that will enable County Transit Agencies, Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Non-Profit Organizations and other Para-transit Providers to control transportation costs.”

Many of the disabled and sick need to be transferred from one hospital location to another or from home care to a doctor’s appointment for tests or treatment while on a cot. In many cases this transfer is done with full-sized vans or ambulettes that have been converted to carry a stretcher. In some cases an actual ambulance might be used. A quick check of miles per gallon (9mpg for a full sized ambulette; 18mpg for a minivan) and current gas prices ($2.50 per gallon) means that over a 3-year, 150,000-mile lifespan, a minivan is $25,000 less to operate and costs on average $15,000 less to purchase and maintain. Industry wide, the COTvan™ has the potential to save taxpayers and insurance companies millions of dollars.

In a recent letter to Bishop, Jim West of Ferno had this to say: “The Ferno POWERFlexx™ cot allows the attendant to raise and lower a patient weighing up to 700 pounds with the push of a button, reducing the risk of injury to the operator.” He goes on to say, “I believe that Autovan, through effective and targeted marketing, in combination with its existing industry experience and national presence will bring about new public awareness to the potential benefits and savings on the new COTvan™ powered by Ferno.”

Autovan, LLC has COTvan™ demonstration units available to begin showing potential clients and is currently recruiting for commercial dealers. Autovan is a leader in the medical transport industry and specializes in the manufacturing and distributing of ADA compliant minivans for those who use wheelchairs or stretchers.
