Fresno Fencer Battles to Third Place Bronze Medal at North American Cup Fencing Tournament in Albuquerque

On November 11, 2005 Olga Ostatnigrosh of Fresno Fencing Academy fenced against the top women foilists in America to earn the Third Place finish for Cadet Women’s Foil at the NAC Fencing Tournament in Albuquerque, NM.

(PRWEB) November 19, 2005 -- Olga Ostatnigrosh is the daughter of former Soviet foil champion Vladimir Ostatnigrosh, head coach of Fresno Fencing Academy, where she trains with her father five days a week. She regularly competes in local tournament circuits, the Regional Youth Circuit, and the NAC (North American Cup) fencing circuit. This dedication and experience led to her recent Bronze Medal at the NAC in Albuquerque, where she fenced against the top rated Cadet Women’s fencers in the U.S.

The Ostatnigrosh’s immigrated to the U.S. in 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union. Vladimir has been a professional fencing coach since the mid-1980’s in Ukraine and here in his adopted country, where he is now passing his skills and knowledge to his own children and their fellow students at the Academy, where he teaches the three Olympic fencing weapons of foil, epee, and sabre.

Modern Fencing is a direct descendant of sword dueling. Unlike the free-wheeling fighting of Three Musketeers fame, the modern Olympic sport is played on a thin strip with one of three weapons: Foil, Epee, or Sabre.
