Bird Flu Expert Hosts Interactive Teleseminar

Most infectious-disease experts believe that the world stands on the verge of a bird flu pandemic. In fact, according to Shigeru Omi, regional director of the World Health Organization, “The world is now in the gravest possible danger of a pandemic.”

LAKEWOOD, NEW YORK (PRWEB) November 19, 2005 -- Most infectious-disease experts believe that the world stands on the verge of a bird flu pandemic. In fact, according to Shigeru Omi, regional director of the World Health Organization, “The world is now in the gravest possible danger of a pandemic.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and many other nations and organizations are sounding the alarm. President Bush has just requested $7.1 billion to finance the war against bird flu, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has just released its long awaited HHS Pandemic Influenza Plan.

The concern is that the bird flu virus will mutate, allowing easy human-to-human transmission—which would result in a pandemic. The bird flu virus has recently been shown to be similar to the virus that caused the worst pandemic ever recorded, the so-called Spanish Flu of 1918-19, which killed upwards of 100 million people—at a time when the global population was less than one-third of what it is today.

There is a great deal of talk about planning at all levels of government, and there is a focus on the development of a vaccine, and the manufacture and stockpiling of antiviral drugs. However, all this planning doesn’t extend down to the level of what individuals are supposed to do to prepare for this potentially devastating bird flu pandemic.

To address this need, The Frank Group is offering an interactive teleseminar with Dr. Bradford Frank, an expert on bird flu. The teleseminar will include an overview of the coming bird-flu pandemic, what individuals can do to prepare for it, and an extensive question and answer period.

This unique teleseminar on bird flu will be held on Monday, November 28th, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. There is no charge for participating and everyone is invited to attend. Interested individuals can sign up through the web site listed in the contact information.

Dr. Frank is President of The Frank Group, a business contingency planning consulting firm. He has expertise in the areas of: business contingency planning, emerging infectious diseases, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), avian influenza ("bird flu"), weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, epidemiology, and various public health issues.

He is the author of numerous scientific articles and several books including, Terror Unleashed: The Coming Bird Flu, Oil, Terrorist, and Financial Crises (January 2006), and Bird Flu: Expert Advice to Help You and Your Family Stay Safe (January 2006).
