(PRWEB) November 19, 2005 -- Mehru Nisa Khan was crowned Queen and winner of the Miss NRI Global 2005 pageant as she cleaned house. The event in San Francisco, California on Sunday, October 16th at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Malaysian Kanchana Nanda Kumar was placed second and Rimi Gill from the United States was placed third.
Mehru Nisa Khan, Queen, was also awarded for Best Personality for giving the best performance in the "Self __Expression" category and Best in Elegance.
The competition saw contestants from 21 countries around the world competing in three rounds – fitness, evening wear and personality.
Mehru captivated the judges by showing humor and confidence when describing her personality traits and wearing a sophisticated outift, but not overlooking to speak about her traditional values.
Mehru was born in Lahore, Pakistan and holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Communications from Loyola University Chicago. She currently works as a legal assistant in one of the most prestigious law firms in the world. She aspires to become extremely successful in anything she sets out to do, preferably in the field of law and/or entertainment and in doing so, help as many people along the way as possible. She hopes to rid the stereotypes that plague the beautiful women not only in her country, but women all over the world in general and be able to manifest her independence, intelligence and inner beauty, not just what’s on the surface. She is set out to become a role model for other women and wants to serve as a goodwill ambassador to the people within her community and in society as a whole, in order to make the world a better place to live in to the best of her abilities. She considers herself as a life long student of justice and a teacher of faith. She hopes to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan, Hurricane Katrina, and the victims of the brutal stampede in Iraq. Overall, wherever her footsteps may lead her in life, she wishes to make a positive difference along the way.
I-NRI Organization set to present Miss & Mrs. NRI Global 2005 Pageant as the first International Pageant for Non-Resident Indian women of the Diaspora at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, California on October 16, 2005. Rennu Dhillon, Chairman of I-NRI Organization, a non profit public benefit corporation in California, recently announced the first International Pageant for Non-Resident Indian women of the Diaspora.
I-NRI Organization, whose purpose is to provide persons of Asian extraction (Non-Resident Indians or NRI’s) opportunities to win scholarships through talent showcases.The Miss & Mrs. NRI Global 2005 Pageant. Delegates from over 20+ countries around the globe including Kenya, France, Singapore, Canada, South Africa, etc. participatied in the event, which the I-NRI team had been working on for the past 10 months. “The purpose of the scholarship is to assist the delegates in meeting their educational and professional goals, whilst at the same time having the opportunity to visit new countries, exchange forums with other NRI’s and have a lifetime experience":, said Gulu Laungani, Vice-Chairman of the Organization.
The pageant was covered by Tv Asia for 5 days and will be aired on Tv Asia plus other networks around the world.
“The most unique aspect of our pageant is that we are a non-commercial entity and therefore the question of exploitation is non existant”, stated Dhillon confidently. She brags about a unique scoring system designed solely for her events that are transparent and instantaneously projected onto large screens for the general audience to view. “We are confident that this event will set the bar for our Asian Indian community and will become the most prestigious global platform for Non-Resident Indian women featuring international talent”. Mehru Khan was also asked in an interview who her favorite singer was and her answer, "Reggie Benjamin, known as the First Indian Pop Artist in America."
