50 Cent's 'Get Rich Or Die Trying' Gets Ridiculous Reviews Spread Over Online
After reading all reviews online of Get Rich or Die trying, one writer takes the time to write a true summary of what he's viewed as an impartial and near racist group of movie reviewers online, as well as a review of Curtis Jackson's movie and big screen debut.
(PRWEB) November 20, 2005 -- 50 Cent may be one of the latest successful Hiphop music icons to get downplayed by the media.
Releasing his movie "Get Rich or Die Trying" this past Thursday, numerous websites posted negative reviews for the movie, citing the plot was monotonous for Hip Hop. However, some of those same writers gave positive reviews to movies that have been redone for today's generation. Is the media trying to eliminate 50 Cent's hype is now a huge question amongst Hiphop fans who are out to support one of their own.
Numerous people who went to theatres came to URB1.COM, HipHopGame.com, and others, in talks about the movie and 98% of those said it was worth the watch. However, when looking at near all movie reviews you find on G.R.O.D.T. in news searches and press release sites, they are negative. Some reviews are even using comments that are bordering deroggatory as writers are upset that a movie exposing the truth of Urban America is out.
Questions sent to some of those writers went unanswered.
The big question now, is simply why is main stream America's writers so upset that 50 Cent put out a movie that depicts the way America's inner city youth are living. And why are they trying to criticize a film that ended positively with the star committing his life to a legal lifestyle of rapping, instead of trying to become a major drug dealer?
Speculation from Hiphop music lovers concluded the answer to be 'racism'.
"They made 50 cent take his billboards down in California after electing the Terminator as Govenor. Is that a joke? And why do Americans let advertisements for movies like Terminator, Matrix, ecetera go uncensored but as soon as a minority stars in a major film it's completely negative and bad, eventhough in his movie he kills no one?" questioned the owner of URB1 Magazine, Rod Rainey.
He went further saying, "It's simple and clear to me. Race plays a big issue in what can and can not be done. People can argue all day about this, but even the Bug's Bunny cartoon had guns going off in them".
Main stream media has also had a frenzy over a shooting that took place recently in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at a G.R.O.D.T. movie showing.
A man was shot and killed by 3 people he got into an argument with in a bathroom. He wasn't in the theatre watching the movie when the devastating event occured but the media is still trying to relate it to 50 Cent's movie. The theatre even stopped showing the movie saying it wanted no more problems, as if the movie had something to do with the murder.
Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson commented on the shooting remorsefully over the weekend. "I feel for the victim's family in this situation. But, you know, these weren't kids. This was a 30-year-old man who had a dispute with three other guys," 50 Cent told ABC News. Yet the media, who's avoided exposing deaths related to cartoons and other movies, is trying to connect the two.
"The movie was great. People who are talking badly just don't like 50 Cent's success, plain and simple." said one URB1 subscriber when asked about the movie over an online chat. "I agree. I've seen guns in all kinds of movies and ads, so for them to condemn 50 Cent's ads, it's almost like there's people who are scared of the truth of inner city ghettos getting out" said another. "You can say the movie plot was repitive because it's been a never ending cycle in Urban America! But you can't say the movie was bad just because of a similiar plot. I've seen no movie exactly like this" they went on to say.
Get Rich or Die Trying is in movie theatres now. URB1.COM, a Hip Hop fashion site that preaches unity and support of Hiphop, as well as other general Hiphop music sites are encouraging people to go out, enjoy the film.
While DVD sales are expected to push the movie into a much higher bracket than it's in, Hiphop enthusiasts logged in online are hoping 50 Cent can break some records, proving the power of Hiphop in America.
Currently Get Rich or Die Trying has raked in almost $18 million, accumulating over $12 million it's opening weekend. Reports show that Chicken little, Zathura, and Derailed have outsold 50 Cent's fictional movie. However, the movie starring 50 Cent as Marcus is only featured in 1,652 theatres while the top box office movie is in 3,658 theatres.
No other film in the box office can compare in ticket sales per theatre in the top 10 sellers, excluding the #10 film, Pride and Predjudice. The film Pride and Predjudice accumulated almost $3 million in only 215 theatres.
