History of Thanksgiving and 1-800-I-LOVE-YOU Announces Holiday Bouquets

George Washington proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789. President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving in 1863.

(PRWEB) November 21, 2005 -- George Washington proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789, although some were opposed to it. There was discord among the colonies, many feeling the hardships of a few Pilgrims did not warrant a national holiday. And later, President Thomas Jefferson scoffed at the idea of having a day of thanksgiving.

It was Sarah Josepha Hale, a magazine editor, whose efforts eventually led to what we recognize as Thanksgiving. Hale wrote many editorials championing her cause in her Boston Ladies' Magazine, and later, in Godey's Lady's Book. Finally, after a 40-year campaign of writing editorials and letters to governors and presidents, Hale's obsession became a reality when, in 1863, President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving.

This year we celebrate Thanksgiving on November 24, 2005 with a feast usually with family and friends. If you cannot be with family and/or friends this year, 1-800-I-LOVE-YOU Flowers and Gifts has many bouquets to choose from that can be sent as a centerpiece. Featured this year on their web site at http://www.800iloveyou.com is the Teleflora's Williamsburg® Celebration Bowl, The bouquet arrives with chrysanthemums, daisies and roses, in a beautiful 18th-century-style urn-shaped bowl created exclusively for Teleflora by Colonial Williamsburg.

Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Virginia—the inspiration for Teleflora’s WILLIAMSBURG® Celebration Bouquet—is the world’s largest living-history museum. The restored 18th-century town re-creates the thriving capital of Virginia at the time the dream of American independence was taking shape under the leadership of such patriots as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, George Mason, and Peyton Randolph.

Other bouquets from 1-800-I-LOVE-YOU this year include the Waterford Crystal Cornucopia and the Country Charm Cachepot also from Teleflora. There is never a wire fee or service fee when you order from 1-800-I-LOVE-YOU online at http://www.800iloveyou.com or by calling 1-800-456-8396. The price you see on their web site is the total price you pay when you order from them. They also honor all national advertised Teleflora coupons for additional savings, see web site for details.

1-800-I-LOVE-YOU Flowers and Gifts is a member of the Teleflora network of approximately 25,000 florists throughout the U.S. and Canada. Local florists in the network deliver the bouquets.
