Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Teaching Fellow Honored by The American Academy of Pediatrics

Atlanta (PRWEB) November 24, 2005 -- Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization and one of the country’s leading pediatric healthcare systems, announced plans to open a new Sports Medicine facility in Snellville on Monday, November 28. Gwinnett County has the fastest growing pediatric population of any Georgia county and expects an additional 30,000 children by 2009. The new Snellville location will be Children’s first stand-alone Sports Medicine facility. A grand opening celebration is slated for Saturday, January 7, from 11 a.m. to1 p.m. Kicks 101.5 FM will broadcast live from the event, which will include games, prizes, music, food and lots of fun!

Tally, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Children’s. “With Gwinnett County’s rapidly growing pediatric population, we are preparing for the future and adding these services to provide Children’s quality care in convenient locations for the families of Gwinnett County.”
The new 2,800-square-foot Sports Medicine facility will be located at 2220 Wisteria Drive in Snellville. This will be the second Children’s facility in Gwinnett County to offer Sports Medicine services. The Satellite Boulevard location in Duluth offers Immediate Care, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine services. The new Snellville location will provide comprehensive medical and orthopaedic services for student-athletes at the elite, collegiate, high school and middle school levels. This will be the seventh metro-Atlanta location for the Children’s Sports Medicine Program, which is one of the leading pediatric sports medicine programs in the country and treats nearly 3,000 patients annually.
With the addition of the new Snellville facility, there will be seven convenient Sports Medicine locations in the Atlanta area: (1) Meridian Mark; (2) Sandy Plains; (3) North Druid Hills; (4) Satellite Boulevard; (5) North Point; (6) Town Center; and (7) Snellville. Rehabilitative services and orthotics and prosthetics are also available at the Children’s at Gwinnett satellite location at 4850 Sugerloaf Parkway, Suite 501, in Lawrenceville.
Children’s Sports Medicine Team provides:
| | - Contracted certified athletic trainers to area high schools
- Assessment and treatment of all major and minor sports medicine injuries
- Facilitated medical care to the closest Children’s Immediate Care Center, Emergency Department for more serious injuries or to an appropriate sub-specialty service for further evaluation and treatment
- Availability to the coaches and their staff at any time to answer questions regarding care or prevention of sports-related injuries
- Pre-participation school physicals
- Many local sport club affiliations including the Atlanta Silverbacks and Georgia All-Star Gymnastics
