New Women's Social Organization Launches in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland Metro Areas

Girls & the City provides a new outlet for women to network and socialize.

Columbia, Maryland (PRWEB) November 28, 2005 – Girls & the City (GATC), an all-women social and networking organization, debuted today in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metropolitan areas with the launch of its web site www.GirlsAndTheCity.com, nearly two years after the idea came to fruition by founder Amy Pickwick. Catering mainly to young professional women, GATC offers member benefits including: pre-planned social events, online networking, premium online content, and special offers to area businesses. GATC membership is open to any adult woman in North America.

Girls & the City was founded on the premise that it's intimidating to meet other female friends no matter whether "the new girl in town" or just looking to branch out one's "circle of friends." GATC starts each member out on equal grounds, with common needs, and lessens the anxiety and difficulty to bond with other women.

Girls & the City hosts about 100 events each year, including: Third Thursday social-network events; girls' nights out; parties; women's workshops; and trips.

"Girls & the City has been an absolute blast to build from day one," says founder Amy Pickwick. "I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of help I’ve had working on this project, only because everyone that has touched Girls & the City sees the unbelievable impact the organization will play in enriching their lives and that of future members."

"Because of the strong support, I expect an unbelievably high success rate for Girls & the City," she goes on. "I can't wait to share the news that the web site has officially launched with every girl I know!"

About Girls & the City

The web site is the backbone - the "virtual clubhouse" - of GATC. Women can sign up for membership online in a matter of minutes. They can network with other members, interact with staff, and register for upcoming events. The site offers a variety of other useful features, including a book club, premium content, a message board, online shopping, recommended links, and upcoming area events of interest.

In addition to the web site, GATC features a bimonthly e-mail to its e-mail list group with breaking news and upcoming events. A monthly social/networking event is held to give members an opportunity to meet and socialize in person.

About Founder, Amy Pickwick

In September 2001, Amy Pickwick relocated to the Washington, D.C. area from a three-year stay in Atlanta, Georgia, due to a career change. Within six months, Amy founded the Maryland Outdoor Club (MOC), to create a place for newcomers and natives to share their love for the outdoors and get in shape. The MOC has been hugely successful; it has been featured in the Baltimore Sun newspaper, and has several thousand participants today.

Amy always had an interest in helping others and event planning. So, naturally, when girls in the MOC began to mention they didn't know many other women in the area to pal around with, Amy's creative energy mixed with her entrepreneurial talents led her to start Girls & the City.

Amy graduated in 1998 with a Marketing degree from Salisbury University on Maryland's eastern shore. She is originally from Frederick, Maryland and resides in Columbia, Maryland today.
