Star Supports Growing Prince’s Trust Business

Former ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!’, twice capped England football and Gladiators’ star, John Fashanu has been working with a successful Hampshire-based Prince’s Trust start-up, EB Marketing, to raise funds for children’s charities like the National Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

Former ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!’, twice capped England football and Gladiators’ star, John Fashanu has been working with a successful Hampshire-based Prince’s Trust start-up, EB Marketing, to raise funds for children’s charities like the National Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

The company, owned by Mike Jackson (not the pop star), continues to work closely with Fashanu on a variety of commercial and charitable projects. It started business just 18 months ago with an award of just £5,000. Since then it has helped to create work for a number of people in the Hampshire area, and it has been very active in supporting the local community.

Jackson’s client list continues to grow, and his client list includes some household names, and strong brands within their own particular sectors such as: Gartner, Tottenham Hotspur, Konica Minolta, United Business Media, Vantis Numerica, Dalkia and a number of others. This client list itself suggests a mutual interest in football, and this is one of the reasons why the two men get on so well and share the same motivation to support the local community, create jobs, and do whatever they can for children’s charities.

“It was very good to meet Michael whom I trust enormously”, says Fashanu who adds, “It is great to increasingly work with him too. We are helping each other, and share an interest, not just in football, but also in motivating young people – particularly disadvantaged children - to achieve their potential to the fullest. Michael’s company EB Marketing is also the main sponsor for the Aldershot Boys Football Club under 8s.” The company itself is named after Jackson’s two children, Ebony and Bailey.

“So he invited me to participate in a funding-raising event for the NSPCC, to help young children get fit called the wheelies campaign. He also help in my fund raising event which entailed donating and selling signed football shirts of some of the top Premiership football clubs, and some Rugby ones too, at a recent celebrity attended charity supper in London”

Jackson has found Fashanu’s enthusiasm to be inspirational, and can as result of the partnership understand why he also works as a motivational speaker. Fashanu has brought his experience of motivating people to the world of business by speaking at conferences, and helping to promote campaigns and support worthy causes and companies such as EB Marketing.

“John has been very helpful, amiable, has a great sense of humour and he has the ability to inspire people in a way that is very down to earth. As EB Marketing expands, and creates a one stop shop for marketing services – including Public Relations with the help of Graham Jarvis, Editor of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Technology interest group and others, John’s support and work with us will be instrumental in helping my team to achieve greater heights for charities, the local community and new business opportunities”, comments Jackson.

Jackson – whose father was murdered, and was brought up with four other siblings by his mother alone in some very rough areas - hopes that EB Marketing’s achievements will also inspire others to go into business, particularly if they have come from a disadvantaged background. Beyond commercial success, he therefore hopes to put give something back to others, and with Fashanu acting as a superb role model, he believes this can be achieved.

About John Fashanu

John Fashanu, born 1962, is an ex-footballer, having played for Wimbledon, Aston Villa, Lincoln City, Millwall, and he received two caps for playing for England against Chile and Scotland. As a centre-forward he is described as having a powerful presence.

Since retiring from football this has been appeared on British television, on which he presented with Ulrika Jonsson Gladiators in the late 1990s. In 2003 he came second in ‘I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!’ Later in that year he presented Fash's Football Challenge. This reality TV show followed Fashanu, and showed him managing an amateur football team. He also maintains his links with sport as chairman of Welsh football team Barry Town, and he is involved with the Nigerian Football Association.
