Leave competitors in the dust with new, truly optimized SAS solutions.

King Star Computer and Supermicro Computer, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-quality motherboard, chassis and server solutions, have joined forces to deliver the industry's first Serial Attached SCSI solutions for the server market. The availability of these Supermicro SAS solutions mark a first-to-market opportunity for King Star Computer to be the first to provide end to end next-generation Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) storage solutions.

Additionally, these SAS solutions support the new Intel Dual-Core Xeon CPU code-named Paxville, which boosts performance up to 50% and provides ease of migration from existing Xeon platforms. Lower TCO is a key feature most sought after in a leading edge server solutions manufacturer. With that in mind, traditional Xeon CPU support comes standard with all of these SAS solutions. “Add to those key components our breadth of selection and our customers now have a competitive edge in winning more business”, said Supermicro CEO, Charles Liang.

"The evolution from parallel SCSI technology to Serial Attached SCSI technology is a major one for the IT industry," added Charles Liang. "Now there's a big opportunity to gain a competitive edge against branded vendors by delivering high performance, more reliable and flexible storage solutions to meet a variety of price/performance needs. SAS technology allows a single platform to be used for both primary and secondary storage requirements. Mix-and-match SAS and SATA drives allow vendors to meet both the highest performance and reliability requirements for transaction-oriented applications as well as price conscious enterprise needs." One of the big advantages of SAS is increased scalability; in fact, a single controller can support up to 128 SAS drives.

"To standardize SAS solution is surely imminent," said Ray Liu, Chief Technology Officer, King Star Computer. Regarding performance optimization, “Both SAS and Fibre Channel share the same serial attribute, but it does not share the mechanism of forming loops, as the SAS interface is specifically defined as point-to-point with unique port addresses”. “In other words, the number of SAS disks attached will not affect the performance, whereas the number of Fibre Channel disks presented would. This is the strength of SAS solution I would foresee”, Liu mentions.
