Beyond World AIDS Day: Thousands Expected for Move Against AIDS

Star-Studded Dance-a-thon to raise money and energize a new generation of AIDS activists.

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 30, 2005 -- Several thousand New Yorkers are expected at Move Against AIDS on December 3, 2005, at the Manhattan Center. The innovative event will raise funds for GMHC’s HIV prevention programs and for services for people living with HIV/AIDS. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit the Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project (CHAMP), an organization dedicated to training and mobilizing the next generation of AIDS advocates. It is estimated there are 1,000,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in the U.S., with an additional 40,000 people infected each year. At the end of 2004, 94,945 people were known to be living with HIV or AIDS in New York City, more than in any other city in the country. One-half of all new HIV infections are among people under the age of 25.

Move Against AIDS will feature five hours of music, with sets by world renowned club DJ’s Junior Vasquez, Tony Touch, Tony Moran, Mary Mac, and Chad Jack, and musical performances by Jody Watley, Jase, Kim English, Kevin Aviance, Jason Walker, and La Bruja. The event will also include appearances by special guest hosts, including Supermodel Tyson Beckford, Mix 102.7 FM morning DJ Michelle Visage, WBLS 107.5 FM DJ Wendy Williams, “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” star Jai Rodriguez and others.
