Popular fiber artist in Houston, Texas pledges proceeds from his online merchandise sales to help victims of the 2005 hurricane season through Habitat for Humanity.

Drew Emborsky, better known as The Crochet Dude, has pledged to donate sales of his online merchandise to Habitat for Humanity in support of Gulf Coast reconstruction.

Emborsky's quirky title as "The Crochet Dude" and his kitschy tongue-in-cheek designs have propelled him from a young unknown fiber artist to the cutting edge of the fiber design world. His unique role as a male knitter and crotchetier has opened doors for other men who were stuck in the closet with their yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks.

Emborsky launched his website and blog in February, and he has gained a loyal following throughout the world. He has been featured in the national publications BUST Magazine, Interweave Crochet, Knit.1 as well as international newspapers like The Sunday Telegraph in London. His wildly popular blog receives thousands of visits per week.

The Crochet Dude online store opened for business on CaféPress.com in March, 2005. Items are stocked based on popular demand -- T-shirts, office supplies and intimate apparel all featuring The Crochet Dude are top sellers.

All proceeds from sales of the Crochet Dude merchandise through the end of 2005 will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. Emborsky says his goal is to raise money for the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

“Here in Houston we've been helping our fellow residents of the Gulf Coast since the first storm hit and I want to do as much as possible,” said Emborsky. "As the holiday shopping season heats up, it's a good feeling to be giving back a little."

“A mug, a calendar ... these are small things, but over time the money adds up," said Emborsky. "One hundred percent of the profit will go directly to Habitat."
