Lost in Translation, Inexplicable Errors Uncovered in New Testament

Author on a mission to reform popular Spanish translation of the Word of God.

Longwood, FL (PRWEB) December 2, 2005 -- Was it sloppy work or an intentional mistranslation by the editors? A new book exposes the omissions, additions, transpositions, and substitutions associated with the 1960 Reina-Valera New Testament.

From a burning desire to uncover the truth, Dr. Gary E. La More wrote While Latinos Slept… It is from his determination to awaken the Spanish world over these matters that this breakthrough book was birthed. Knowing full well that even just a few translation “misfires” create confusion and generate questions over Scripture reliability, the author felt compelled to do something. Dr. La More dissects the 1960 Reina-Valera, analyzing in great detail Matthew 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. Like a detective on one of his greatest cases, Dr. La More tears away the mysterious veil surrounding this 1960 work. What does the author propose translators do to turn this disaster around? Biblically mature readers will find the author and his ideas serious, critical, and quite ardent in the passion to recover what has been lost in translation.

While Latinos Slept..., A Detailed Study of the Reina-Valera 1960 New Testament in the Light of the Critical Greek Text of Westcott and Hort (November, $24.99, 1-59781-505-5) by Dr. Gary E. La More contains evidence proving that subtle changes in Scripture have occurred. He exposes words that have been added to the Spanish New Testament. The author’s approach is one of a sincere love for Latino brethren. His passion is for them to have the pure Word of God in their own beautiful language.

Dr. La More describes the inspiration behind the book: “When I began to study Spanish in Toronto, the Lord had brought a number of Cubans to our ministry, and my wife and I felt constrained to reach them for Christ in their own language. I began to read the Spanish Bible on a daily basis. At that time I did not realize there were so many Spanish Bibles available. Since then, I have acquired the 1543 Enzima, the 1569 Reina, the 1602 Valera, the 1602 Valera Revised, the 1865, the 1909, the 1960 and the 1995. Using the King James Bible exclusively in English, I began to check the various Spanish Bibles that I had in my possession. I began to notice differences between them and the King James and wondered what Greek text these Spanish Bibles were following. They all professed to be following the Textus Receptus or the Received Text upon which the King James is based. However, the more I began to study the Spanish Bible, the more I discovered that the Spanish Bibles I have were not following the TR.”

A researcher by nature, with the equivalent of six years of Greek in his seminary’s M. Div. program (Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary), Dr. La More began his in-depth study, which led to his breakthrough work, While Latinos Slept....

Dr. Gary E. La More has been pastor of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, since 1987. He is president of Historic Baptist Bible Institute and Seminary and the superintendent of Grace Baptist Academy, a ministry of Grace Missionary Baptist Church. He has held several other pastorates in both the United States and Canada and attended the World Congress of Fundamentalists, Spurgeon’s Tabernacle, London, England, in 1973. Dr. La More holds the following degrees: Ph.D.; Doctor of Divinity; Master of Arts (major in ancient Near Eastern history); Master of Divinity (major in Greek and Hebrew); and Bachelor of Arts (major in history). In 1970 he was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, a national honor society for graduate students in history
