EDLab, a division of Pure Air Control Services, Inc., has joined the Bay News 9 Team to provide daily Allergen & Asthma Alerts to the Tampa Bay area.

Pure Air Control Services and it’s in-house American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) accredited Environmental Diagnostic Laboratory (EDLab), has partnered with Bay News 9 as the official Allergen & Asthma Alerts (AAA) provider. The AAA is being broadcast on Bay News 9’s weather forecast on the :19 of every hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Under the direction of laboratory manager, Dr. Rajiv Sahay, EDLab’s professional staff of microbiologists and mycologists provides Bay News 9 with the Pollen, Mold, and Particulate (PMP) count for the day, which is then included within the hourly weather broadcast. Each day the PMP count is compared to the normal indoor environmental quality (IEQ) guidelines. The groupings of pollen, mold and particulates are rated on a scale ranging from very high to absent. Very high counts of these outdoor air quality pollutants correlate to an elevated rating, while low counts suggest reduced exposure to such allergens. Subsequently, viewers can determine the level of air quality, and the corresponding effects upon their individual allergy symptoms. These same parameters can be measured for consumers by Pure Air Control Services, who professionally diagnose indoor environments.

“The EDLab staff is extremely honored to be partnering with Bay News 9 to contribute this valuable and important information to the public. It is important to be aware of indoor air quality issues, which affect our health and well-being, and the AAA is raising that awareness,” states Dr. Sahay.

As part of this program, Bay News 9 is also carrying the Allergen & Asthma report information on it’s website,

Alan Winfield, Chief Meteorologist at Bay News 9, commented on the newest addition to the channel’s weather broadcast, “We at Bay News 9 are extremely excited about our new partnership with Pure Air Control Services. This a well-needed and tremendous public service that is being offered. The Tampa Bay region will now be receiving the area’s most accurate, professional allergy reports from a highly professional lab.”

EDLab is a nationally recognized AIHA-accredited environmental microbiology laboratory and was the first AIHA-accredited lab in the state of Florida. EDLab continues to stand out in the field of indoor environmental quality, and utilize the data collected over the past 10 years, and over 100,000 samples, to create a vast database that is being used to set standards and provide trends for developing baseline conditions of IEQ.
