Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) December 8, 2005
American Business Association of Russian Professionals, announced the results of its first Technology Investment Conference Silicon Valley Open Doors, which took place at Quadrus Conference Center, Sand Hill Rd, Menlo Park and Stanford University on November 14-16, 2005.
The purpose of the event was to demonstrate investment and business development opportunities available in Russia, Ukraine, and other Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries to US investors and corporate leaders; to assist Russian companies, universities, as well as individual entrepreneurs in creation and commercialization of successful high technology products and their expansion into international markets.
The event brought together over 250 participants including high technology companies and entrepreneurs from Russia, Ukraine and other FSU countries and top US venture capital firms as well as technology, marketing and business development professionals from the leading Silicon Valley companies such as Cisco, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems.
Supported by the leading venture capital firms, high technology companies and organizations such as Asset Management Company, Yandex, the number one Russian search engine, IBS Group, the top IT holding in Russia, Red Herring magazine, National Venture Capital Association and many others, the conference had a rich and informative program which included workshops, seminars, business plans presentations and visits to the leading high technology companies in Silicon Valley.
“It is of immense importance to create a forum where high technology projects and entrepreneurs from Russia, Ukraine and other Former Soviet Union countries can establish direct business contacts with their American counterparts and venture capitalists. The SVOD conference is a tremendous step in this direction,” said John Morgridge, chairman of Cisco’s board of directors.
For the US venture capitalists the conference presented a unique opportunity to evaluate potential technology investment opportunities originated in the Former Soviet Union countries.
“Russia, Ukraine and other Former Soviet Union countries have always been famous for the scientific breakthroughs, but these regions have been overlooked by the US technology investors who have been recently focusing their attention mainly on such emerging markets as China and India. The conference demonstrated great potential of the high technology companies from the Former Soviet Union”, said Peter Loukianoff, Partner at Alloy Ventures.
The conference attendees had an opportunity to learn how to approach venture capitalists, potential corporate partners in the United States, and improve their knowledge on the variety of issues related to building successful high technology companies.
“It was an eye opening event,” said Alexey Girin, head of Product Development of Active Video and participant of SVOD 2005, “We realized how much needs to be done to ensure successful launch of our product on the American market and now have much better understanding of the particular steps we need to take. We also made very valuable contacts with the representatives of the top venture capital firms and potential partners.”
